I also liked Dark Souls 2 but sadly never finished it as I lost my save because it didn't support Steam Cloud and I didn't have the energy to start over.
I can completely see why the gameplay might not be for everyone. I don't remember struggling with the spaceship controls but maybe I just got used it it. If you ever want to give it another go I'd suggest exploring the starting planet first, then maybe go to the moon, and then explore the other planets. You don't need to visit stuff in a particular order and are sort of led by your own curiosity. Though there's a logbook in your spaceship for collecting clues which also gives some pointers where to go next.
Thanks for the recommendation. That looks interesting. Added to my wishlist. Hope there's not too much typing or it might get tiresome on the steam deck.
Can confirm that Outer Wilds and Return of the Obra Dinn are amazing games unlike anything I've had played before. Though both needed some time before it clicked for me. Subnautica, Celeste, Hollow Knight, and Hades are solid games too.
I'd also like to mention Soma (a horror game I still often think about) and the two Ori games (metroidvanias with incredible soundtracks).
My understanding was that clang isn't deterministic by default but can be made deterministic with flags. I checked and this is still true but not for the reasons I thought. I assumed this was due to the way LLVM iterates over functions and basic blocks in a non-deterministic order (because of the way they are laid out in memory) and because some optimisations use heuristics. But it appears LLVM tries to make all optimisation passes deterministic. The remaining non-determinism comes from file paths and timestamps which can be worked around with the correct flags and some extra work to create reproducible builds.
I tried disabling steam input but it appears you can't do that for the Steamdeck controller. It says "Always enabled" next to Steamdeck controller.
I tried binding the walk key to a back button as well, but the back buttons aren't recognised by the game at all. Possibly another hint that the game is having issues with the Steamdeck controls.
I did adjust the deadzone in the Steamdeck controller config. The game itself only has sliders for aiming not walking.
That's a good shout. I had a quick look at profiles too but didn't see anything that might fix the issue. I will look a bit more. As a last resort I might have to make my own keyboard based input though not sure how well mouse aiming will map to the sticks. It's just a bit annoying I have to do this at all.
Yeah, I've had my steam deck for years and never encountered this issue. Though the only other Sony game I've played on there is God of War which also worked fine. Though I've seen others describe the same issue for Last of Us Part 1 on the Steamdeck.
Happy to see the free storage feature. It was one of the features from Google Photos that I missed. Even happier to see that it's now better than Google photos where it always was an all or nothing deal. Being able to keep more recent photos on the device when freeing up storage is a great option.
I've been with Infomaniak for some time now and quite happy. Their 1.50 EUR for 5 mailboxes is hard to beat. I mainly chose them as they offer a decent android app , which is also open source and on f-droid. They are also as far as I know the only provider, apart from fastmail, that offer proper email threads/discussions, i.e. where your responses are shown alongside the received emails within the same thread. I haven't tried out all providers though so I'd be interested to hear if there are others with this feature. Unfortunately the app can be a bit sluggish at times but it's mostly serviceable.
Oh thanks for the heads up. First time I hear about NVIDIA dropping Linux support for older cards. I would have liked to say that they lost me as a customer for this, but it doesn't look like NVIDIA cares about selling to consumers these days anyway (also due to the lack of an open source driver I had already made up my mind not to get another NVIDIA card long before this).
Guess it's gonna be an AMD or Intel card next time. Any recommendations for a card that fits into a small ITX build?
I do something similar using restic to encrypt, deduplicate, and backup my photos to backblaze every now and then. Out of curiosity, any particular reason you choose zip over something like restic?
It took me two tries to get used to Kvaesitso but now I love it. I was using Nova until the Branch acquisition, then briefly tried lawnchair but had to move on as it wasn't very stable. Once I realised I could start apps by pressing enter after searching I found it much quicker than scrolling through an app drawer. Unless you can't remember the name of the app that is.
I've enjoyed playing Mineclonia on Luanti with my kid. I don't know how it compares to real Minecraft but it's been perfectly serviceable for our needs. It even has an Android client.
I'm in the same boat, but I've pretty much decided to move my Restic backups to Hetzner Storage, unless something better comes along before I do the migration.
If you need something on the go I quite enjoy whoBIRD (available from F-Droid). Wonder if these use the same model.
There's a good hbomberguy video that agrees with you.

I'm fairly certain that clang is non-deterministic and I strongly suspect that gcc is too.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Here. If you scroll down a bit it's the one on the very right called "Mail service". It's mail only though, so no kDrive.

I wouldn't be surprised if they use hole punching. It's an old but effective technique which Skype famously used back in its heyday.
