I agree 100%, but it's important to note that it's a very difficult issue. Whether someone actually wants to die or if they're mentally ill and are making a terrible irreversible mistake is often quite a tough line to draw, making this a very complex problem to solve.
The EU needs to wake up and go hard on companies and industries. No mercy, no half-assing, just legislate the absolute shit out of them for once so that maybe our children can survive and live in not so terrible conditions, because not so terrible is the best we can hope for at this point.
The rest of the world too obviously, but the EU seems the most likely to do so.
Because they're causing this shit for decades now, solely because of their greed. If most of them suddenly have a change of heart and decide to put their power to help the world then opinions about them will improve, until then it's pretty justifiable to want to lynch those responsible one by one like the unhinged murderers they are.
One of my biggest concerns with these kind of platforms is that they'll end up being a home for creeps and criminals due to a lack of rule enforcement. I don't want to be ashamed to use this platform or anyone to suspect me for it.
This, so much. I don't mind porn but I do mind it popping up unexpectedly while browsing all instances in public. There's so much of it relative to other content that it feels like Lemmy is just used as a porn repository at the moment, I need to find more magazines to sub to
Out of the pretty small number of database systems I've used:
Postgres: Pretty standard choice, can't go wrong with it
MySQL/MariaDB: Also very safe choice, I feel like it's more feature rich than Postgres but I'm not sure
Oracle: It reeks of proprietary bloat and it's unnecessarily different than the previous two in some things, but you can get some official enteprise support if you're a company
Influx: It solves a specific problem (time series) but it's very cool, modern and with api support for many languages

It's already causing massive geopolitical changes.. No one can say for sure where it all leads
This is a pretty huge concern with distributed hosting, I hope there are some safety measures on all instances
