Agreed. While plenty of people have been covering energy use by technology for many years as well as the many dangers of social media and other online services…the fact is Gen AI simply takes everything that was already questionable and doubles it…quadruples it… Yes, not everything in tech is bad! And the stuff that was bad before does not excuse what's frighteningly worse now.
I've literally never heard of those horrible companies mentioned in the post. I have no idea what they do. In that sense, maybe Ed's bad at PR? Honestly I've been following Ed's work for a long time now and I'm also a frequent critic online of genAI, so I don't really understand this swinging at him with a bat. He's been a net positive for the movement, no question. Also the line about how he's an ass on social media…that's his brand. He's always roasting everyone. He also roasts himself, when he's not ironically making himself out to be a genius (in that winking British way). If you don't like that sort of humor, fine, but I think it's pretty weird to take it too seriously. 🤷🏻♂️
Not one single mention in this entire article about how the onus of safety has to be on drivers and on the car-oriented infrastructure of the community. Not a single mention about how to improve safety for pedestrians and micromobility users across the board.
This kind of reporting is criminal. But OK sure, it's not the car-brained people who are out of touch, it's the children who are wrong.
That was where it started, but then they did ban a well-known Blacksky user, link (I don't know too many details), and then people really lost their shit. They were also surprised that well well well, the bsky ecosystem isn't all that decentralized after all. 😄
Same here, all of the most interesting stuff somehow never makes it onto film. I think The Silver Chair did get produced in the BBC (?) miniseries ages ago…
Ah yes, NeoNaziOS. We definitely want that to go mainstream.

I understand asking for alt text. But the image is not of text, it's of a cartoon which partially contains text.
It's debatable whether this license is truly open source. I wouldn't say I particularly go out of my way to be pedantic about it, but somebody might.
It too is beautiful in my soul today.
These thoughts are way too deep for a silly meme thread, but I'm here for it! 🫡

"So what" …the defining ethos of the slop bros who don't mind when technology is built on the back of stolen content and ecosystem collapse.

Maybe this is too technical still, but Eleventy is a pretty cool project that can publish markdown.

Aww, those poor multi-ton metal leviathans are frightened by the scary human-sized two-wheelers. 😢
Nope was a fantastic movie. Us was the weakest of the not-a-trilogy but still a very thoughtful and well-made film.
Wow, this looks really good. I'm trying it out on PieFed.social and so far, so good!
OpenAi isn't open source. 🤔
Wisdom is not data, and being "smart" is not about instant recall of trivia.

Very cool idea! Just starred on Codeberg.
Would you pay for the extra plus features if the source code were also made available?
