The truth is, a vast majority of users don't know or don't care about old.reddit, and weren't even aware of the exodus years ago due to the API changes.
This whole "reddit bad" contingent on lemmy is the delusional group.
I honestly don't think this is that big of a deal.
The people that want to still use unverified apps can do so after having to go through the flow once and never again. Those that don't even know what that means can't be easily coerced into installing a malicious app because of the security cooldown period.
This was a bigger issue back when the rumor was that no unverified apps could be installed under any circumstances. Now it's completely overblown but the site seems to be doubling down instead.

This isn't going to affect Discord in any meaningful way.
The vast majority of users are going to be flagged as adults and not have to do anything.
The majority of the remainder are using Discord for "teen-friendly" purposes and won't notice a difference.
The rest are gooners who are relatively new to Discord that will absolutely use a verification method to not lose access to the huge amount of porn that became permanently locked to the adult Discord community that they want access to.
You're likely in groups 1 or 2. And if that's news to you... then you need to learn to read past the headline that The Verge posted that got everyone up in arms.

Healthier, yes. Cheaper, no.
It's quite literally the first option on the three-dot menu of any Teams chat: "Open in new window"

You can't disable updates to Google Play Services.
Why is this not being blasted on the mainstream news? Any other person saying this would be forced to resign in disgrace...

So none of you actually read beyond the headline, huh?
