Thank you for your nice comment! Here is my current layout. It changed over the past three years and I can't say I put much thought into every key. Some layout choices developed through my coding habits and also coding in VAST Platform with Smalltalk in a legacy project.
In the first layer everything is pretty standard colemak-dh layout. The print key I use often for screenshots on Linux. The Home and End buttons are very convenient for coding.
The second layer is my 'gaming' layer which has a kind of QWERTZ layout with random buttons assigned around it that I bind in game.
The third layer is for coughLeague of Legends. That was necessary because in that game you can't rebind the Space key and at the time that was my most played game.
The fourth layer is symbols and German Umlauts (ÄÖÜ) since colemak-dh doesn't feature those and I wanted them conveniently placed. The question and exclamation mark at the index finger position was such a great choice in hindsight, as well as the { } buttons in thumb position, since I use them very frequently while coding.
This layer only exists for music controls and the macro on the top left is just Alt + F4 since VAST Platform (the IDE I mentioned earlier), opened EVERYTHING you did in a new window and didn't accept Ctrl + Q to close them. Usually while coding you had like 20 windows open and pressing Alt + F4 300 times a day was too unconvenient for me.
My original writing speed was 70 WPM and it took me about a year to gain that back after switching to colemak-dh
I noticed that the script would only work, if the mod creator kept their github repo updated. Since the latest version of the mod is not on github, it pulls an old version.
No one ever asked me "Oh, are you using linux?" Even if they see that your Desktop Environment is different from what they're used to on Windows, they usually don't notice it's anything else than Windows.
You should probably go for Linux Mint. I love the Gnome Desktop environment, but you'd need to install it afterwards.
Probably go for the XFCE version of Linux mint.
Most of the DLCs are easy cash-grabs with not much value. The base-game is regularly being modified, sometimes improved, sometimes not.
They still have performance issues in late game, Multiplayer sync issues and no ability to change keybindings.
Some major quality of life features are lacking for me.
I love the game, I've been playing since release, but I wish they'd put less effort into releasing overpriced DLCs and put more effort in improving the game. I also dislike their DLC subscription model.
I had a similar issue a few years back and I fixed it by entering TTY2 by pressing Ctrl+Alt+F2 and figuring out what broke via the terminal. My issue was that xorg couldn't start because some dependencies broke after installing an update.

Yea I get that. For me it was a way of keeping the game fresh, though many of the changes added more micromanagement, which made the game harder.
