My instance is just used by me and occasionally my partner and some friends. Running it costs me nothing aside from whatever portion my energy bill is increased by having the container active in my home server. I already had registered my domain for other things, but a domain is $10-$12USD/year, which is basically nothing.
The person posted the same thing in multiple communities and got very little feedback aside from a bunch of downvotes. I was trying to help them by explaining why their approach is getting a bad response. I apologize for coming off like an asshole, that wasn't my goal at all.
It sounds like you just need to go do some simple searches in the app stores for icon packs that you like. What exactly do you need help with?
I'm guessing all the downvotes are because nobody wants to be your search agent, and the way you've phrased this makes it sound like you've put very little effort into finding things for yourself.
Not to mention getting away from someone who engages in slut-shaming, biphobia, and speciesism. Especially considering that Spock is also an "alien" from her perspective. Doesn't bode well for a happy relationship for him or her, they're both better off with his choice here.
Since many other comments have focused heavily on technological inventions, I think it makes sense to add some notable cultural impacts on society as well. As with most of the technological inventions mentioned, cultural forces also don't come out of nowhere and arguably have been around for a lot longer than 100 years, but I think it's pretty obvious that society within the past 100 years has been and still is being massively affected by the following concepts that did not originate in the USA:
feminism
civil rights movement (usually seen through a US-focused lens, but is happening everywhere)
gay rights movement (esp. in the 1990's and beyond)
gender-spectrum concepts
widespread influence of evolutionary theory (even the word "meme" came from a British biologist's book about evolution)
Especially considering that Yuri Gagarin's flight inspired generations of people all over the world after him to a probably immeasurable extent. If the OP wanted "global society-altering", then that certainly qualifies.
It does begin to feel a bit like you're moving the goal posts for what you consider "world-changing" as you comment more on this post.

I don't know for sure what that person is referring to, but I believe the default in GNOME is for alt-tab to switch applications, which is a bit unintuitive. There is a simple built-in option to change it to switch by window instead, which is probably usually what one would expect. To me, that's not something that needs "fixing", it's just a default to change, which is perfectly fine.

How would using NixOS have made OP's system immune to the critical hardware issues that they discovered were the root cause making their computer fail to boot?
I don't see this one mentioned often, but Frogatto & Friends is a lot of fun if you like platformers with an old-school aesthetic. I keep it on my Steamdeck to play a few levels every now and then, it's a smooth game with a nice feeling to the controls.

Putting the confusing nature of your comments aside, I do think it's worth highlighting very clearly that - as you yourself pointed out - performative action can be quite useful in the original sociological sense of the word. It means bringing something into being through speech/action, which is the polar opposite of "inert lip service".
Many of Thunberg's actions have inspired and informed others precisely because they include a performative aspect (in the sociological sense), and she doesn't do anything that is "inert lip service" as far as I am aware. In fact, based on interviews I've seen of her, I suspect that "inert lip service" is incredibly annoying to her as well.
If someone needs/wants to use AI to do extremely simple things like plan their date activities, that's a good indication that they are an exceedingly uninteresting and unengaging person overall. They can't even do the simple things, so the hard stuff in life is going to be insurmountable and they'll be a massive burden on their friends and partner(s).
Where's the incentive to "give them a chance" in this scenario? The books at home are the better option by far.

FWIW, if you self-host Adguard, you can do those things without needing to bother with touching individual hosts files. It'll also then just work for every device on your network. Create your own domain and expose adguard via a subdomain and you can just point your phone at your DNS server while you are on external networks too.
I despise tow operators (unless they exclusively work for repair shops) and their lesser cousins, car booters.
I'm also a "fuck cars" adherent, but tow operators are cop collaborators, and car booters are assisting them both to steal and ransom people's personal property at the behest of capital.

My partner and I live separately, and we use Colota (F-Droid link) to send location data to our individual self-hosted Home Assistant instances.
Our Home Assistant instances are linked together which lets us share our locations with each other.
This might be a bit much to set up just for location sharing, but if you're using home automation anyway, it's nice to have it all tied together.
