I do know that privilege itself obscures experience. Compassion and empathy are built on experience. Therefore expecting someone who is privileged to have compassion or empathy to those without the same privilige is unrealistic. They have to be shown, or brought to a point where they can align their experience with others.

I mean you could look at it and say oh wow that's six of the G7 countries, which are considered the countries which largely steer 'western" democracy and have done for the last 50 odd years, plus sweden, which is widely considered to be the most progressive western democracy, and try to work out why one of the countries on that list is so ass backwards in its social welfare.
But maybe it'd be easier to draw a comparison between that and Russia, which is a thinly veiled dictatorship and was booted out of the G8 10 years ago when it annexed Crimea, and China, which is literally ruled by the Chinese communist party. Those are two very valid and worthwhile comparisons to America, the world's leading liberal democracy, with regards to entrenched workers rights.
