Yeah, I looked a little more, and I can't remember where I saw that comparison for the first time. I've edited it to be a bit less exaggerated, although I think the overall point - that the evidence for Jesus "guy who got nailed to some planks that one time" is about as strong as what we have for many other historical figures - still stands.

Note 1 (not citation 1 because things have to be confusing) of Wikipedia's Historicity of Jesus article lists ten different quotes of various sources (three of them are Bart Ehrman) reiterating that his existence as a normal guy is widely accepted, here's one of them:

Today nearly all historians, whether Christians or not, accept that Jesus existed and that the gospels contain plenty of valuable evidence which has to be weighed and assessed critically. There is general agreement that, with the possible exception of Paul, we know far more about Jesus of Nazareth than about any first or second century Jewish or pagan religious teacher.

You can be perfectly skeptical of the miraculous claims about Jesus, but he's about as well attested in history as Alexander the Great almost certainly a Real Guy.

It's more or less impossible to come up with a standard of historical evidence that doesn't allow Jesus "the guy from Nazareth who went around saying the end of the world was at hand" without throwing out... most everyone in history before maybe 200 CE?

The "IPO price" for institutions (banks, hedge funds, a tiny bit for retail brokers) was $135. It opened on the public market at $150-something.

This isn't even lies, damned lies, and statistics territory - it's just nothing. I know VR motion sickness exists (I still get it even after an uncomfortable amount of time in SteamVR sometimes) but that's... that's not anything

When a (typical) Linux system boots up, it first goes through an "early boot" environment that just has some basic drivers and things. The entire purpose of this environment is to find where your actual root file system is (which could theoretically be on something quite complicated, like RAID or a network file system), mount that, and then transition to the "real" system.

That error appears when something goes wrong with mounting the real file system.

👋 I'm not using Kustomize, just throwing Deployment manifests and such at the cluster manually. Works pretty nicely, though I had some trouble setting up the custom nginx stuff to proxy stuff in - I ended up running a new nginx instance and pointing the Ingress at that rather than the Lemmy pods directly. Maybe there's a more elegant solution I'm missing?

• get on federated thing
• use corporate brand recognition and raw capital to get lots of users onto your instance of the federated thing
• lots and lots and lots of users
• "realize" that most of your users are only talking to each other, and maybe less than 10% is happening over federation
  • (of course they are, you deployed all those resources to get as many users as possible)
  • feel free to make things hard for the rest of the network along the way by being generally unstable for federated instances, since you represent such a huge number of users the rest of the network will cater to your broken nonsense
• leave federated network, citing "technical challenges" and aforementioned mostly-local-posting, causing everyone not on your instance to just mysteriously stop posting from the perspective of most users who aren't keeping up with what seems like a bunch of nerd drama

I think reddit has an internal distinction between NSFW and "sexually explicit", and it's at least partially set by the whims of reddit admins instead of sub mods.
