I'm currently looking for a second career job. I've put out literally 100+ resumes in the past couple of months. The only two positions I've heard back from were from agencies where I knew someone.
Asking for help/an in is not only acceptable, but in many situations, the only way to get a position.
Don't feel bad for something everyone else is doing.
Conversely, anytime I've worked somewhere where a position opens that a friend of mine may benefit, I let them know and will hunt down the hiring manager once my friend applies.
My wife can apply for dual citizenship as the grand daughter of Irish immigrants. Her sister already moved to Ireland about five years ago. We're making plans to protect our son.
I may be called a coward, and part of me would agree, but I've watched this country descend into fascism for over thirty years. I no longer have hope that things will get better.
My father in law is the son of Irish immigrants. According to Stephen Miller's plan, he can be denaturalized and deported. Is it likely to happen to him? Probably not. He's a relatively wealthy 70 year old. But once the brown people are dealt with, who will they scapegoat next?
To give Bush his credit, he said that "won't be fooled again" line because he realized he was about to say "shame on me," and that would have been used against him for the rest of his presidency.
I feel like this is our last attempt at a do over of 2016. I was swindled by Russian propaganda and bought into the "protest by voting third party," and while my vote didn't change anything (New Yorker), a lot of others were also duped in swing states and counties.
Nothing short of hard financial and/or legal ramifications will stifle this kind of election interference. If it's not stopped now, it will take root and fester.
