I think you have a myopic view of the world, and while I hate to make assumptions, I doubt you know many immigrants personally. Of course it’s risky to make broad generalizations, but most migrants, illegal or not, are not leaving their home willingly. Rather than trying to fight against forces so far beyond one’s control wouldn’t it be better to accept the reality of the situation? If the community you find yourself in isn’t working right then build a better community.

Sure none ever WANTS to leave their home but imagine what might make someone feel like they have no other option but to go.

What is machine learning “art” even for? It doesn’t feel good to create; it’s a mechanical process without any of the satisfaction that comes from actually making anything. And I’ve not seen or read much that was made by a generative process that was a pleasure to consume. To me it seems like it’s mostly about creating content that you can sell. Comparing a tool like the Roland TR-808 that has been used by generations of musicians to make endlessly creative work to the boring churn of an automated process seems like a stretch, to say the least.

Lots of things about American political discourse are infuriating, but this is def one of the worst. Republic administrations are so much worse for inflation that it’s almost laughable to see this opinion shared around. Kind of wild how politics is all vibes and memes I guess.

You just listed like eight examples of minority languages being protected in Europe. What is the threshold you’re searching for here to prove that minority language and culture are, at least sometimes, treated differently in Europe? I’m in no way suggesting that these issues are being dealt with perfectly anywhere in the world, or that Europe doesn’t have plenty of examples of minority populations being mistreated, but I think it’s kind of strange to argue that China isn’t engaging in some form of ethnic cleansing. Especially when it comes to Tibet and the Uyghur people. The Chinese government is using policies like this to intentionally suppress the culture and language of minority populations.

Both things can be true; Europe has an imperfect record when it comes to treatment of ethnic minorities, and China is targeting certain ethnic minority populations under the guise of “assimilation”.

Also, hasn’t public-sector hiring been flat for decades? Not even counting the recent DOGE bullshit? This workforce has been aging out with nobody replacing them, and the remaining folks have to do more and more, pushing more people out to private-sector jobs. Just not sure how useful this data is by itself, except as another indicator of U.S. government in decline
