Basically I made a community on lemmy.fmhy.ml and then searched for it on a different instance and it wasn’t coming up, and apparently you have to search !community@instance and subscribe and only then will the community be searchable/accessible from the other instance.
Thank you, that makes sense - I do feel like there should be the option to search unfederated communities without having to know the explicit name & instance, but maybe I’m wrong :-)

Ah, yes that works, but not from wefwef , only on the web. But now I’ve searched it I can find it normally.
So when I perform a normal search for communities it’s only searching those that have been “indexed” by fmhy - and basically my community is completely invisible to other instances unless they specifically search for it?
Hello 👋 I made a community called loveisland on this instance but I can’t access it from the other instance I’m registered on (namely lemmynsfw.com but also feddit.uk)
I made the community a few days ago and have searched for it multiple times from those servers but it never shows in the search results.
I’m having the same problem, i created loveisland on lemmy.fmhy.ml , and when I switch to lemmynsfw.com and try and search for it it says no communities found. Scratching my head a bit :(

I just tried again and that didn’t work, it doesn’t make sense as I made the community days ago! Is fmhy not federated to lemmynsfw.com maybe?

It’s one of those features that you get used to & then miss - but agree it’s not absolute top priority! :))
+1 for being able to do this without the workaround
Perhaps a feature like Reddit gold would be helpful? I don’t know how donations would be distributed across all the servers though…
