I’ve been listening to the Out Alive podcast for a little while and it’s amazing to me how many of those scenarios could have been resolved much quicker had they been able to SOS.
Another annoying thing is if you approve an app from the App Store once, it’s approved for install forever.
Going off what you had mentioned about apps with chat features, we’ve run into times where we’ll approve the app thinking it’s fine, but then our kid finds out they can chat with random strangers and divulge personal information. At that point we delete the app, but they can reinstall it whenever they want without requiring parental approval again. 😬
As long as you can get out before it gets too hot, it’s not that bad. Hydrate the day before, get good sleep, and bring more water and electrolytes along than you think you need. Cooling towels around the neck work wonders too. 👍
After about 10 AM, though, you either need to be inside or in the pool to be comfortable.
I feel bad for landscapers and UPS drivers, though. I offer water bottles whenever I can.

A GPS device like a Garmin InReach that can send out an SOS even when there is no cell signal could very well save your life.
It’s crazy how much easier it is to get down to Phantom Ranch than it is to climb back out of the Grand Canyon…

Absolutely. Here in Phoenix, we have rocks on top of rocks everywhere. Rock strikes are inevitable and ride wrap does help a bit.
I realize it’s a pain to install the stuff yourself, but you can have a bike shop do it for you if you prefer.

Maybe brush it with melted butter and crushed garlic? Sprinkle some finishing salt and a few pieces of cilantro if you’re into that sort of thing?
Honestly I rarely would eat this by itself… Rather I would dip it in chicken tikka masala for example.
