Yikes I’d never actually finished a full post of his — and still won’t (had to close this one about 1/3 of the way through) 😅 What an insufferable tool.
You’re not silly — you’re totally, totally relatable!
The thing I relate to least is the IPL hair removal (basically stopped shaving body hair when I was 23). But other than that.
At some point every not-so-simpleton wishes for meaning in work/life/existence. Not everyone has these wishes at the same time, so it may feel like you’re alone, but I guarantee you’re not- it’s only natural. Plus our boring dystopia / capitalism keeps us overworked and extra unfulfilled.
As I’ve gotten older my sense of ‘time’ has radically shifted. I know for sure I don’t have enough time to achieve all the great things I wish I could’ve strived for earlier. But I can keep busy with smaller goals, or unexpected moments, or meeting new people, or trying things out for a lark (rather than trying something Big and Meaningful right at the start and punishing myself for failing).
Don’t underestimate depression, certainly seek treatment and relief for that, but know that this is a lull or a low and at some point you will find something fascinating again. 🫂 Emotional existential growing pains? You might need the morphine more later, might as well save it for Later-You.
Travel would be great 🙂
Though I’m also reminded of the SNL parody commercial (TV comedy sketch) with Adam Sandler as a travel agent — “We can take you for a hike; we canNOT turn you into a person who likes hiking…”
Omg I have never seen a Silver Jews lyric bumper sticker 😍 Also have a Subaru Outback this exact color but only distinguishing flair are huge gaping cracks and dents
Word. I teared up out of happiness after a dental hygienist (who I currently see) offered me numbing gel for my gums during a cleaning (even let me choose the flavor) in a totally non-judgmental way. I was in my late thirties and I didn’t know any dentists would be willing to offer that sort of stuff to adults.
“Rather than a moment of silence to honor the service members killed this year in combat across the globe,” said Jason Heaser, a Democrat seeking Mr. Nadeau’s State House seat, “they chose a political stunt to honor a man unanimously convicted by a jury of his peers for murder.”
Someday the person may have the ‘aha… fuck’ moment and think back to you. I’m so sorry you’re having to deal with it.
I’m ADHD only diagnosed about 5 years ago but my work’s CEO is basically 15 years older, SUPER undiagnosed, and has money/power/sycophants so he will never truly ‘deal’ with any of it, even as he may be actively ruining his company and his behavior is causing the best people to quit. The defense mechanisms go deep. We can’t force introspection unfortunately…
Agreed. When a therapist or friend or anyone, thinking that they’re being caring, suggests to me, “How about setting a reminder?” as though I’ve never tried that, I’m like, “… Okay, how about I show you my multi-layered alarms/reminders lists? Buckle up, buddy!”
Or the genuine question, “Have you ever tried a planner?” Let me show you the entire half bookshelf I have of planners. Now let me describe to you how/where each system went wrong and what was happening in my life at the time. Oh wait— you’re gone now
Mitch McConnell’s welcome home party?
I love that one 😅 Here’s to saving up for your next trip maybe getting to ride a zipline (wheee)

It’s pretty much just “ready, set,” and then instead of ‘go’ it’s an “ey!” type of sound effect
Librarians are the best 😊
Me too, I’m confused why there’s “shockwaves” now…
