Hey I know it's been months, but after the discussion in this thread I built a new computer with a real GPU (I went AMD and I'm using the MESA drivers) and tons of ram, and I am happily running LibreWolf and it's awesome!
In terms of ram utilization and GPU acceleration on this new machine with modern hardware, Firefox is negligible, as everyone told me it would be!
On my PC and all my home servers I keep my root partition at 10GB and haven't had any issues (although I keep everything that isn't hardware related or a system utility in home).
On my PC I crammed arch, all of KDE (+extra KDE utilities), and some other system stuff like LACT and distrobox in the 10GB root partition and run almost everything else as a flatpak installed to home.
On my servers I do the same thing but all my services are in podman containers in /opt.
Having all the software needed to make the machine work be isolated from my custom home junk makes me feel better, and I like that I can mount root as read-only to make it immutable
Yeah and it's awesome. I have it making backup snapshots automatically and I copied the steamos-readonly script from valve to automatically lock everything except my home/root/var/opt etc (I realize you can remount ext4 as ro too, but still btrfs handles this well).
I recently swapped the contents of two drives of different sizes (one was a server and the other was a PC) and btrfs made the filesystem resize and expansion parts easy.
That's fair. I do think the desire to make Lemmy a better place is admirable, but their behavior is obviously misguided (if I'm being very generous).
The instances filtered in their blocklist (including the one I am on) could imply something heinous... But I want to give this person the benefit of the doubt here. Maybe it's ignorance? Maybe they truly believe blahaj.zone and db0 are dangerous extremists? Maybe this was just momentary petty power tripping?
Idk much about this person outside of this cataclysmic rake-stepping, but I believe a community free from hate is built with understanding.
I also believe intolerance cannot be tolerated, and I am glad this platform stood up for our friends on the block list.
I think your goal is admirable, but centralizing the blocklist defeats the purpose of a decentralized social media network.
We already have filtering at the instance level, so it seems to me that any client level filtering features must increase user/admin agency, rather than putting that agency in the hands of the client dev (regardless of how noble they may feel their opinions are).
There's no good way to do what I wanted without either sounding like a dick, calling people out, or otherwise causing mass ire.

I'm not a big fan of the NFA either, but its existence exposes the true nature of gun control policies in Cali or NY... To make "progressive" politicians look better during their campaigns without actually affecting their constituents gun control goals.

I also think it's crazy that we don't have any form of licensing system besides CCW... When that is also proven to not constitute infringement.

The polymer frame of a Glock is the serialized part, so most homemade firearms today are made with a 3D printed frame (or lower receiver for ARs) and off the shelf unregulated parts kits from the internet.
For ARs, the entire upper receiver assembly (upper, barrel, bolt carrier, etc... So all the parts that experience stress) can be purchased pre-assembled for less than $300 with 0 paper work or legal obligation.
As far as truely "homemade" firearms go, check out "Home Expedient Firearms 9mm SMG" by Phillip A. Luty.
There are some issues on mobile. Web 2.0 sites almost always had issues due to lack of responsive web design, but in 2026 the retro aesthetic can be achieved on all aspect ratios.
Also, back in the web 2.0 days they didn't have Grok to make their iconography... if the retro aesthetic is your goal, take a look at some neocities sites to get an idea for what design choices and resources they use to create their assets.
Also, this is just my opinion, but if you have/will use AI tools to generate your html/js/css, I highly recommend taking some time to make some basic sites from scratch as practice. If nothing else, it will improve the prompts you can compose and improve the quality of code you accept from your agent.

The last time I had issues was about a year and a half ago, and I switched to Brave, but a year later (5 months ago) I was convinced to give Ungoogled Chromium another chance by someone here on lemmy (because of all the controversy surrounding Brave).
In the past I always used firefox because its customization features are so much richer, settings werent intrinsically tied to google (or amputated like in ungoogled), and the source code is more comprehensible (firefox is so neatly organized and easy to build yourself, and chromium is a giant mess under the hood).
I really want to use firefox again... maybe I'll get a dell precision tower off ebay and shove a cheap old nvidia card in it with the proprietary drivers to solve my problems 😅
Youtube is especially egregious. I've tried various hardware acceleration settings and h264ify but it really brings my pc to its knees.
Im on linux, and when I run my windows vm (qemu kvm) with either Visual Studio, SQL Server Management Studio, or Fusion 360 in it, firefox on my host machine runnimg youtube just barely pushes it over the edge.
I absolutely recognize how wild what I'm asking this little computer to do is, but I can just get away with it in chromium but not firefox (since the last time I checked)
The day I can do it all with firefox I will be a happy camper
Edit: also, I specifically said games but didn't name one... FFXIV and Deadlock both crash if I'm running youtube in chrome (and Discord at the same time).
Yeah, of course ads aren't an option, but ungoogled chromium still supports mv2 for now and I can't watch a youtube video and play a video game at the same time with firefox on my machine...
Granted, I'm probably trying to make inadequate hardware do more than it should, but chromium works and I don't want to upgrade my hardware right now.
Performance like opening a link crashes another application like my vms or cad applications or VS or a game. The performance differences are relatively minor, but it really matters on crappy hardware

I only saw a couple episodes, but it seems that making you feel gross is the point...
I've seen a lot of media that glorifies smoking, but little that makes cigarettes look as disgusting as chainsmoker cat.
For that reason, I kinda feel like banning it on the basis that it encourages smoking is misguided.
