I have a family member who chooses to live homeless and after many years of being around him and others in the homeless community I can tell you that many would reject this. On a positive note, some would welcome it.

To be clear I don't blame her for the constraints put on her. I blame her for accepting them. Why would anyone run with those constraints? She should have told them to go lose an election. It's telling that she didn't.
If she was competent she would have won the election. Just look at what she was running against. A clearly deteriorating Joe Biden was able to beat him in 2020 and buy the DNC some time to get their shit together. Why are some unable to see that the Democrats own a big chunk of where we are today?
Correction, voters couldn't bring themselves to vote for an incompetent candidate. The Democrats had years to find someone electable and failed. Biden was a self-stated bridge candidate. Orange Julius was elected because the Democrats failed.
While I agree with the sentiment I also think that it's best for society if everyone contributes while realizing that some are able to contribute more than others. Essentially no freeloaders.
But the ROI for ending hunger can't possibly match military spending, plus military spending provides governments with a clear path to choosing economic winners, so here we are.

I'm far from an expert but didn't we more or less try that during the industrial revolution? As I recall from old history books, it wasn't so great for the majority of citizens and the economy was an actual roller coaster ride.
It's not a policy failure at all. It's a systemic feature. Capitalism is dog eat dog until only one dog remains. If you want to fix it you need a new economic system.
