A factoid is technically supposed to be something resembling fact, but not actual fact. (The Greek suffix '-oid' normally being used for that purpose, like in paranoid, "like knowledge" or asteroid, "like a star").
The best thing about factoid, is that factoid is now a factoid. Because it resembles what it is not lol...
Anyway, nowadays, you are allowed to use it the way you did, at least in the descriptivist world view. The prescriptivists may disagree, however. And those people are often 'that guy' ;)
That millionaires leaving in droves myth is always trotted out in these debates.
The very institute that was perpetuating the idea recently rescinded their own report because the UK is making millionaires at 10x the rate they are leaving. But of course that’s not reported on.
Plus, again, the ultra rich operating on a global scale don’t pay taxes anyway, so good riddance.
Did all the millionaires leave when taxes were incredibly high compared to today’s standards? And again we’re talking progressive taxation. Only income above a certain threshold would have a higher rate applied. They won’t notice it. They literally are just fighting it because they can.
Many UK millionaires only speak English and don’t want to uproot their lives to save a tiny amount on taxes (the S&P500’s returns will always make up for whatever tiny additional percentage we might tax the rich).
It’s so silly to think that there’s this millionaire flight.
By now we wouldn’t have any left.
Oh and conveniently it’s happening in all other countries too. So where are they going, space? Antarctica? It’s propaganda for the stupid.
I’m already using a mobile workstation type thing with 1h battery at most. That’s the unfortunate reality of mobile CGI / CAD work. I’d still be interested, as I have no alternatives.
I’ll be interested to see the performance of mobile RTX 50 series GPUs. The 30 series nearly had parity with the desktop counterparts (mobile 3070ti nearly matched desktop 3070).
With the 40 series it was more like 4090 mobile == 4080 desktop. No doubt due to impossible power envelopes.
The power brick I have to carry for my laptop with a 3070ti is already bonkers. Not to speak of the fan noise.
Be interesting to see just how much these are basically AI accelerators in disguise, which accidentally do gaming too.
Expecting a 5090 that’s even more expensive than the 4090 and still sold out for 6 months.
As a laptop user it would be nice to go from 8GB vram in my 3070ti to something like 16gb, but I wonder what insane power requirements even the mobile parts will have.
+1 for Bitwarden. Seamless experience so far. EBay hasn’t yet worked properly, but GitHub does for sure. It’s very convenient, especially if your browser doesn’t store cookies
I’d go down the route of paying for a seed box with crypto and then using that with a WireGuard tunnel to download via FTP.
Any government involved would have to really, really care about me downloading a film here or there to work out who is using this seed box to download things.
The argument that more people taking public transport would somehow fix this makes no sense in a place like London. It’s a gigantic city with public transport permanently bursting at the seams.

In my experience (lived in four countries, ~30 cities / towns), public transport just feels unsafe. It’s always a choice between crazies shouting, groups of teenagers playfighting and blasting their mobile phones on full volume or just the good old rapey stare from strangers.
I’d rather not be exposed to all the worst elements of society at close quarters in a metal tube I can’t escape from.
I’m with you on this one, not sure why you’re being downvoted. Until public transport is safe, which it has never been in my experience (as a lifelong public transport user in many countries), I’ll walk or cycle.
Or, well, now I live rurally so there’s no public transport, and I’m reluctantly driving everywhere.

How is that any different from what you can do with Steamlink, Meta Quest Link, Bigscreen, Virtual Desktop or (sort of) ALVR?
