I think they saw that their premium users are now cancelling their subscription and moving to other streaming services, also bands like KGATLW is removing their catalogue from there, so they pulled this move. Not until Spotify start paying artists fairly, moderate the AI music bullshit, stop jacking up the prices, stops supporting the genocide against Palestine, improve their discovery algorithm and the list goes on; Spotify can go fuck itself

Spotify has a become a shit show lately. I don't like that the CEO is supporting a genocidal state, the platform is full of fake AI artists and playlists. Artists aren't getting paid enough. the price hikes and the app just feels so bloated with unnecessary bullshit. Because of this, I switched to self hosting my own music server (Navidrome, and Lidarr) and I use the symphonium app on Android. Really happy with that solution

Solid thinking! I have the same philosophy but I'm in a place where I need bread. Even if the company didn't provide the hardware, I still took the job. But I do care about privacy so much, I took all the steps necessary to make sure I'm not letting them inside my computer. Luckily they don't have us use any of their softwares, and the only things I have to use is a corporate email inside chrome. And I'm running all of this on a spare old laptop, not my main personal computer.
