My experience is nearly identical. I only ever used RIF, I did have the official app installed just incase I got an IM, but almost never, ever used it.
When all this started to go down a month ago, I gave using the official app a shot, tried it a few times, but every time I would just get more and more frustrated.
Jerboa is filling that hole for me at the moment. But truthfully I am hoping to develop better habits to spend my time.
The language of the law is being misinterpreted intentionally by these protesters in order to make it "seem" like they're making it unlawful to discriminate against people with this attraction.
It's really just an attack against LGBTQ+ people being rebranded.
I've been running into this issue as well(also on jerboa). It seemed as though I needed to create a new account attached to the instance I was linking to in order to subscribe to the community. I don't want to have to juggle between 3 or 4 accounts to browse the communities I'm interested
