I think it's very close.

Bush launched two wars where the US invaded countries in the Middle East, leading to decades of destabilization in the region and leading to millions dead. His admin coincided with the rise of Fox News and conservative punditry outside talk radio. Patriot act, tax cuts, oversaw the recession, etc.

Israel's genocide started under Biden, so I can't exactly put that on Trump even if he's supported it. This quagmire with Iran isn't as big as the invasions were.

Trump's been more damaging domestically with his scotus appointments and emboldening racists, but if you look outside just the US, then yeah I think you can definitely make the argument that Bush was worse.

This is completely unsurprising when you're aware of the reasons that motivated PieFed's development (anti communism). Features designed to limit the voice and reach of certain instances lines up with that motivation. PieFed exists to counteract communist influence in the threadiverse.

Some here who helped push it spin it as a way to make the fediverse more palatable to the average Internet user because they care more about growth than culture, but the underlying motivation has always been to try to separate the threadiverse from its communist roots.

I'll take the tankie devs over liberal devs every single time, personally. You can say what you want about them and how they personally run their instances, but I'm not aware of them developing any underhanded features like these and others in PieFed.

What? Saying leftism doesn't entail veganism is not the same as saying vegans aren't leftist.

Did I miss something?

  1. It's a joke to point out there is nothing inherent to "leftist" political philosophy regarding veganism. And there isn't.

  2. Behold! The anarchist free thinker, unburdened by such base reactions as tribalism!

When I joined this platform, the choices were .ml and lemmygrad and I see no reason to change.

Me, furiously searching the sacred texts of leftism for the part where they talk about animals and not workers

Remember when people voted in 2020? Wow that sure showed them. Or even 2008?

Almost like if your opposition party doesn't actually present an alternative vision (i.e socialism) and therefore do not and cannot address the root of major issues (wealth consolidation, inequality, housing, pricing etc all eventually lead to the institution of private property), then surprise! The right rallies, the general populace looks for something, and shockingly the reaction has empowered a far right "populist" and pushed the country further to the right. Who could have seen this coming? (literally every socialist).

Your voting didn't do much of anything and the US continues to slide further to the right as it has since like the new deal.

The ending of Chinatown really prepares you for a world where evil assholes own everything and continue to get away with anything.

Also, extremely ironic in that way.

Helms Deep is pretty much an ode to fighting back against overwhelming odds and the power of hope. That battle combined with Sam's words about goodness being worth fighting for. Also, Gandalf's words in Fellowship about choosing what to do with the world given to you has always stuck with me as motivating words when things seem bleak.

I also really enjoyed the scene in Everything Everywhere All at Once where Waymond talks about how kindness is a strength.

Could probably keep going but those are standing out to me today.

Calling it the Department of War was like the one good thing they've ever done. It's the actual truth instead of the Orwellian nonsense

We have Trump in large part thanks to Clinton and the Democratic establishment following Reagan's lead and embracing neoliberalism and market fundamentalism. Obama continued this trend, with ACA being a literal Heritage Foundation plan and Wall Street being a big early ally. And then with Biden, they ensured nothing "fundamentally changed" after Trump's first term.

With no left/socialist alternative in this country, Trump appealed to both reactionaries and working class electorates looking for someone to shake things up and "drain the swamp", even if misguided.

Democrats are losers and have been my entire adult life. They answer to capital and fight for capital, and thus, will never tackle the root causes of our slide into oligarchy and fascism.

.ml is my preferred instance too because you get the latest updates first, you get access to all the same mainstream PieFed and Lemmy communities, and you get to choose whether to interact with communist communities like Lemmygrad or Hexbear.

I wouldn't recommend it to most people though cause most people can't handle communists. Most would prefer conservatives, even.

And the downside is that certain people will block you or judge you for your instance, even if you were here years before the other instances came to be.
