I'll start out by saying that there are many good and charitable people in the Philippines. Some of the best people I've known live there. But there is a LOT of poverty and that breeds some of the worst things in society. Having spent a few years in western part of Luzon island, there are enough bad people around that it's not hard to imagine a Filipino finding themselves in a situation where they are locally surrounded by very horrible things--murder, trafficking, etc. In the bigger cities, everyone knows that part of town where you don't go after dark.

It's common business practice for the first big companies in a new market/industry to create "barriers to entry". The calls for regulation are exactly that. They don't care about safety--just money.
I don't know what I would do without RSS. I started with Google Reader back in 06 or so. Then went to Feedly, now Inoreader. Between that and podcasts, I have about 200 RSS subscriptions divided into categories: world news, local news, sports, science, entertainment, philosophy, etc. I don't read every article of course, but I do have highlighted keywords to make sure I don't miss important stuff when scanning.
