Ersteres. Als Service gibt es natürlich Alternativen wie Signal, Telegram, Matrix etc (und über Matrix lässt auch Whatsapp nutzen, aber benötigt einen eigenen Server, was es für den Normaluser schwierig macht).
Facebook mobile und Browser funktionieren tadellos. Anderer Meta-Krempel, keine Ahnung. Whatsapp ist glaub ich alternativlos, wenn man nicht gleich ganz verzichtet.
Google News, mit einer Blacklist von >140 Quellen. Dieser ganze Promi-Schund, Lokalnachrichten aus Hintertupfingen, verlogene Quellen, und solche mit Paywall allesamt geblockt, und gut ist. Viel Sport ebenso.
Hab allerdings keine push-Nachrichten eingeschaltet, sowas nervt mich immer. Guck lieber manuell immer rein, wenn ich Zeit hab.

AI, Healthcare, Renewables: Dickes NEIN. AI ist völlig überteuert, Renewables hatten ihren Run schon und werden vermutlich weiter wachsen aber den Index nicht outperformen. Healthcare ist sicher nicht verkehrt, aber alle Indizes in dem Bereich extrem US-lastig, und von dem System zu profitieren finde ich moralisch fragwürdig.
Was die Brokerwahl angeht - für reine ETFs, völlig egal. Die sind quasi überall kostenlos. Ich bin selber bei FlatEx, wo ETF Sparpläne nichts kosten.

That's just the client, the server architecture is what really matters.
There is threema, a Swiss messenger that gained some popularity earlier since they had end to end encryption before whatsapp.
Unfortunately the source code is not open (even though they do get annual audits with public reports), and the client costs 3 EUR or something (once).
Updating to the latest Lemmy version failed, and the admin couldn't physically get to the server to restore the backup right away.
