The German word Preiswert is great for this, means ‘worth the price’ As opposed to billig - cheap.

To mark the initiative, said to be the first of its kind since admission charges were introduced 125 years ago, the Guardian was granted 20 minutes in the circle on Tuesday morning to sample the solitude.

Maybe 25years ago?

When I was a kid, you could pull over in a layby on the road adjacent the stones and just step onto a path straight to the stones, later there was a small National Trust car park added with a parking fee. Then years later they blocked the road off to protect the stones from traffic exhaust damage, and built up the visitor centre you see today.

Simple; it’s a thug’s game, played by thugs and watched by thugs. (Source; grew up in ‘80s Britain - football violence ruined this game forever and scenes like this prove the point year after year.)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luddite

The Luddites were members of a 19th-century movement of English textileworkers who were against the usage of certain types of automated machinery owing to their concerns relating to worker pay, child labour, working conditions and output quality. They often destroyed the machines in organised raids.[1][2] Members of the group referred to themselves as Luddites, self-described followers of "Ned Ludd", a legendary weaver whose name was used as a pseudonym in threatening letters to mill owners and government officials.[3]

The reason I mentioned a type of shot gun, is that the distance it remains lethal is short, and if you’re shooting up towards something, it wouldn’t come down lethal like a pistol or rifle round, which could be dangerous for as long as it maintains a ballistic trajectory. But yes, not a wise thing to attempt in all seriousness.
