I feel like most would call it a diamond still. Specific term would be a kite. Many wouldn't come up with that, though. It's not an elongated parallelogram. It is not a rhombus.
"Diamonds" on bicycle playing cards have curved edges. They are not a rhombus because sides are not parallel. Most agree that it's the classic diamond shape, though.
People would definitely want to elongate the top and bottom sides because they do not want to draw a sideways square, which is a rhombus, parallelogram, diamond too.
There's no way a human is going to draw 4 equal lines
No one at the end is going to be like "yeah but you have to be sure all sides are equal" when they have some kind of weird kite shape.

Used to be we'd go there because they'd serve you a 10% IPA in a giant 32oz mug or whatever and charge you the same price as what JL Beers would for a 10oz of the same beer. It's been at least 6 years since I've been in either of those because they are just so crazy overpriced now. I also don't drink much anymore, but god damn that Lost Continent IPA was good.
CT resident, new haven style is burned badly, the toppings are distributed at random, and there's gigantic bubbles in the dough. You're an hour and a half from NYC, just get a good pizza and stop pretending pepes and Sally's aren't shit.
I like how these cities are convinced that nobody else anywhere in the world has figured out how to put dough, cheese, and marinara sauce together in the proper ratio.
I have had pizza in Chicago and New York and it was good, but there is good pizza everywhere I have lived in the US. As long as its a local place its normally pretty good. It's not that difficult to get right.

I come across that word every now and then, just like most other words that are not super commonly used. I feel like people who say things like this don't interact much with anything outside of top-level mainstream media. They only know about and watch the most popular things, which are in general pretty dumb things. They only listen to whatever is the newest hit, only watch whatever AAA movie or series is currently being advertised everywhere, they don't read or engage in anything else.

You can (and frequently do) have equal sided diamonds that aren't "sideways squares".
Seems like your main issue is geometry.

There is no such thing as a diamond in geometry. The correct term is a rhombus.
That shape is a kite in geometry.
You ask 100 people what that shape is.
How many are going to say diamond?
Even the people that believe diamonds have all equal sides would say "It's not a perfect diamond but it is diamond shaped"
Imagine saying "It's not a perfect square, but it is square shaped" at a rectangle.
