Just FYI, it's trivial to change your cursor in Windows, and there are millions of different icon packs available for free on the internet without viruses. You shouldn't get an exe to change your cursor, just find an actual icon pack.

Yep I've been changing the default cursor since the Windows 3.1 days. I even used to make my own in MSPaint. Works when you save it as an .ico file.
These days the default selection is good enough for me. Personally I'm fond of the black cursor.

I get that the image is a fun joke, but I'm curious: how many people search Google with (more or less) complete sentences? The last time I used proper grammar for a web search was on Ask Jeeves (before they
executedfired Mr. Jeeves and became "Ask") because I was 12 and I thought it just worked that way.Currently I tutor a middle-schooler and he Googles as if he's asking it a question. He's a bright kid, so I won't judge anyone's intelligence if they also do this.
Come to think of it, if Google uses an LLM to process queries then it actually makes sense, but it's a hell of a lot more typing. Dude, just type "Jupiter radius." I guarantee you'll get both relevant units of measurement without needing to click a single link (fact-checking notwithstanding).
How do you folks search DDG, Google, etc?
brbposting@sh.itjust.works · 8 pts · 2y
Full sentences have been a sign of lack of computer literacy.
Like you, I wonder if thatās changing.
Iāll note I might be more likely to use a full sentence when Iām making a voice assistant look something up, but even still Iāll probably phrase it minimally first before speaking.
Edit: looking at my image, does ruin the meme.
alt-text: searches for ādragon scimitar mouse cursorā & āremove mouse cursor adwareā, ten minutes apart

Search results have gotten worse over time, presumably because people have traditionally been so impolite with their queries. Be polite to your search engine, you may just get better results.
rustyricotta@lemmy.ml · 3 pts · 2y
For the most part, I wouldnāt change anything about the queries in the OP. Itās pretty representative of what Iād type.
Iām sure you could get similar results with āremove virus guideā but I guess I prefer to use language/sentences that are highly likely to match whatās found on the sites.
Iād probably end up with āhow to remove virus Windows redditā, find out the answer is nuke it from orbit, then Iād have to search about how to safely get files from virus computer.
On the other hand, for simple stuff, I absolutely do stuff like āJupiter radiusā

This still happens??? I thought wacky cursors from sketchy websites had gone out of style by like 2003 lol!
NakariLexfortaine@lemm.ee · 4 pts · 2y
I've seen the cursors and the emoji packs as banner ads in the last 5 years, still looking as obnoxious as they did back then. Hadn't changed a bit.
Also have randomly been hit by a "CONGRATULATIONS! YOU WON!" a few times. Still the exact same crunchy audio, just offering a newer shiny.
