They cancelled my offer. I have 3 charges for shoplifting against me from 9 years ago which I mentioned in advance and it was fine.

In fucked now. Completely and utterly fucked.

Thornburywitch@aussie.zone · 13 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Mentioned in advance. Then they pulled it out of the hat at the last minute. That is absolutely gross. If they weren't OK with it, they should have said so earlier - much earlier.

By the way, you can apply to have minor offence charges struck off your record after a period of clean living. Not sure what the period is for shoplifting. Something about the Statute of Limitations. Might be worth enquiring about this at Legal Aid or other community legal service.

Catfish@aussie.zone · 11 pts · 2y

Yeah, smells like failing somebody on a drug screen for prescriptions they pre declared. Not cool.

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 12 pts · 2y (1 reply)

?!!!!!!?!!?! This is unbelievable. Do they do public service contracts, is that why they're so anal? Regardless, how could they tell you one thing and then do another? Aside from being horrific for you it's a waste of their own time and resources too.

I am so, so sorry. Be gentle with yourself today and try your best to focus on the good that you have brought and will continue to bring to your life and the world. This has got to be a matter of messed up communication or legal requirements. If not, then they're not good people... It's not a black mark on your character even if a part of your brain wants you to think it is. We believe in you!

Gibsonisafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 2y

I really, really needed to hear that.

Thank you โค๏ธ

What the fuck?! That's unbelievably shithouse. I'm so sorry. Nine years - that's a lifetime ago.

SpinMeAround@aussie.zone · 8 pts · 2y

Wtf!! That's so fucked!! At the same time, that's a red flag for them to say they're cool with it and then use it as an excuse. Fuck them!

oztrin@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 2y

Oh no. I'm so sorry, for what it's worth.

Some rather promising Victorian State Government (multiple positions) roles have come up so I'll try my luck

On the plus side all the neighbours were out doing their gardening things on the way home all saying hello to eachother so that was wholesome.

Kittenpants was swaying a little while sitting so I was worried about the infection moving to her inner ear. Tied her normal carrier to the pram frame and dragged our butts down to emergency. Yep. Ear infection. They prescribed her more drops but didn't have the ear cleaner wash in stock.

I'm completely wiped out for the next few days, the normal vet and pet shop will likely be shut tomorrow and so I've ordered the ear cleaner wash online and will wipe her ears out with warm water until that arrives. Pet shop didn't have fast delivery... I'm wondering if I should have chanced it in an uber tomorrow morning and just seen if somewhere was open :(

I just found my spare car key, which I lost about 10 years ago! It was in a magnetic keyholder on the inside of the door of my shed in the carport. Now that I have found it I have a vague recollection of putting it there because I need to move the car to fully open the shed door. Obviously this did not turn out to be a helpful move.

Duenan@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 2y

Ah the wonderful recollections of putting an item intentionally somewhere only after you find it. How useful is that?

Hiding it so well you couldn't find it!

Are you responsible enough with that stamp young friend?

One day you'll be able to tell the younger generation "back in my day we had stamps and they kept them behind the counter".

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 2y (2 replies)

back in my day there used to be stamp vending machines. You put your 2 or 5c coin in and a single stamp would come out and you would have to detach it from the perforations

Got a cold call for a job that's a lot like what I used to do so I'm 95% sure I don't want it, but I've got dragged into a chat with the director on Monday anyway despite telling the recruiter it's probably not for me??

Am bored/curious so I'll go, although I don't like wasting people's time... but geez the recruiter was persistent. I'm sure he must be getting a cut for any interview he scores even though the chance of converting it into a hire is low

tombruzzo@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Never feel bad about wasting a company's time when it comes to hiring. Everyone gets jerked around in the hiring process, it's good to give it back to them now and then

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 2y

Very fair point. That makes me feel better about going in out of sheer curiosity and to work out where I fit in in the industry and maybe make a couple connections. It has been a long road towards not taking these evaluations too personally (whether positive or negative) or feel like I need to be selling myself at all times. And it's a small industry, so it's easy to feel over-conscious about what people think, but I'm sure I can still maintain a decent enough profile with a gracious "thanks but no thanks" at the end of the interview.

Nath@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 2y (1 reply)

They don't get a cut for the interview, but they do if you are hired and it's a lot. Something like 5-10% of your salary. If they fill a $100k position, they get something like $10k. Or, their employer does. Which is why you see so many recruiters self-employed.

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 2y

I figured it should be for hires, not just finding candidates and getting interviews. Guy must be a bit of a rookie if he thinks I'd seriously convert into a hire but I guess it's a tight market in that specific sector.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 2y

I've ordered another pet pram to replace the ruined one (keeping the frame as a spare part). Support has been a bit spotty the last few weeks and the little one still seems a bit off, so I want the security of knowing I can get Melbcat to the vet by myself in an emergency. My physical health/ability is another matter but it's much easier with weight bearing wheels. The last pram paid for itself.

Really shitty at that cattery for making me shell out again

Nath@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 2y (1 reply)

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 2y (1 reply)

The combo. Hommus is a top 3 dip.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 2y

Yeah. In a good hommus you should be able to taste all the ingredients. If you add sriracha to it, it fucks up all those flavours.

My current decluttering spree is like going back in time through all of my various short-lived hobby enthusiasms. Today was fishing. So much equipment, barely used. โ˜น๏ธ

It mostly looks ok, but a rat has had a nibble on a section of padding on the bag's carry strap. But everything else looks like it's in good shape, so hopefully I'll be able to find it a new home. Alternatively I might have an bunch of "is this available" messages followed by ghosting, it's always hard to tell which way Marketplace is going to go.

Miss Meow enjoyed going through everything with me, although she was not impressed when I added a piece of paper to the rubbish bag she was sitting in.

Coppola's vampire movie is under rated, it's basically a homage to silent movies.

useless_modern_god@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 2y (1 reply)

I have only seen the Coppola version on your list. Itโ€™s not really underrated, itโ€™s a fine film, has decent review scores and Oldman is fantastic as always but personally, I canโ€™t get past Keanus acting chops in this one. So it kind of kills it for me.

Sadly my credit card's interest free period on all purchases has come to an end. For 15 months I have had $10,000 parked in a savings account earning interest, which has gained me about $550 just for not paying off my card. I'm sad to see it go, but I guess its work is done. I just have to get used to seeing a minimal balance in my card offset account again.

I've been roped into the footy tipping thing this year, usually manage avoid it. Being in IT, nobody in my immediate team cares. With few exceptions, they know only that the sport exists. They wouldn't even be able to name more than a couple of teams.
Now, I have to somehow find $25. I feel like I'm in some RPG game.

Quest: Join Footy Tipping competition
You need:

  • โœ… Footy tipping account.
  • โฌœ $25 Joining Fee

Side Quest: Obtain $25
You need:

  • โฌœ Find an ATM
  • โฌœ Withdraw $40
  • โฌœ Find something to buy that costs between $10 & $15

I haven't dealt with cash in years. It is very annoying. I am absolutely out of practice.

I'm watching this doco called Love has won: the cult of mother God. Right at the start we are told that Mother God has passed on and her body is still warm so she must be a God. Um no. I think it has to do with the thousand and one Christmas lights wrapped around her mummified corpse. But I'm no scientist. Then it's apparent they are tripping on hallucinogenics non stop throughout the day. No wonder they are seeing angels. This is fucking hilarious.
