Chill is back in the air. On the way to a moooovie (MIFF film) even though I have this assignment to do... But I wouldn't have gotten anything done tonight anyway as it's been a big day at work... I think my guilt/anxiety over the assignment is what's caused me to have nasty dreams of teenage woes (had another dream after the one of my mum screaming, with an uncle telling me I wasn't allowed to watch Suits. Which is weird as I've never been interested in watching it anyway and that uncle was relatively lenient)
It's okay to have a bit of a life outside of work and uni ๐ฉ can't sustain my psyche otherwise...
In good news though, I passed my probation at one of my jobs today and got a 9% pay bump (they kind of tend to lowball in the first 3 months then do more after. Even my boss admitted it was "embarrassing" what I'd been paid so went beyond the upper range of what I was thinking). The annual equivalent is the highest I've ever been paid in my life so far - would finally take me past the PHI tax threshold lol - and it is so much cruisier than my previous job, so I am feeling pretty chuffed about that. ๐ฅ
edit: I also negotiated one day less per fortnight so I kind of end up the same financially but with more time so that's not so bad at all ๐
Bad nightmare taking me right back to my teen years being screamed at by my mother over trivial things... The sense of fear and feeling trapped woke me right up :( not now, brain.
As wrecked as I've been this week thanks to starting on Wegovy, I've booked myself a room up in Beechworth for tomorrow and it's non-refundable so that will force me out of my apartment. I'll pop into the Billson's brewery tomorrow afternoon and then chill tf out on the room balcony which overlooks some pretty countryside.
Sunday I'll get up early, go and spend some time looking at Woolshed Falls then drive to Yackandandah and finally see it. I've lined up a place to grab a coffee and breakfast there.
That's as far as I've gotten. As always plans are subject to change (besides the accommodation) because I'm free to do what I want any old time.

How long do you think before Fox News turns on trump? looking more and more like hes gonna lose, continued support is only gonna lead to civil unrest which I am sure they dont care about, but they would care about looking like they supported a loser.
-I sort of understand why they arnt doing it, but I would love to see Ukraine call a snap referendum in Kursk about leaving the Russian Federation and joining the country of winners instead. I hope this incursion leads to things calming down and putin signing an agreeable treaty, but I doubt he is gonna go down quietly.
I cannot WAIT till the EU shows its teeth and puts its boot up Elon's ass. How quickly he threw on the victim mentality shows how pathetic he really is. Love seeing bullys get smacked down.

I have retired to bed, like a boring old fart. Everything is too loud after work in an occasionally quite noisy factory. Sometimes when I come home and I've done all my jobs (dinner etc) I can't wait to leave the living areas of the house. Everyone's enjoying themselves being noisy with Xbox and tv and I'd just be a killjoy asking people constantly to turn it down. I need peace and quiet to recharge and relax, and it runs counter to everyone else in the house doing their Friday thing.
I've watched my movie and emerged into the bustle of Chapel St Windsor, still on a bit of a high after work (and a very strong drink), absolutely hanging for some Indian food... but it's so darn pricey for one person! Why aren't there rice and curry sets at most places ๐ญ I dont want to spend $6 on rice and $25 on one curry...
I shall just be content with heading home and making some rice to go with leftover bits and pieces. Almost considered a simmer sauce with some fish but maybe not...
That's true, but I find Indian in general is expensive for a single person for dinner, unless you take home the leftovers. I looked up other Indian joints in Richmond on the way home and most places are $20+ for one curry. I just wanted like a $20 set meal like a lot of places do for lunch... one serve of rice with two curries and a pickle or something.
There was a promising looking south Indian place on Burwood Rd in Hawthorn that had a thali set meal for $16 but I would've had to detour and by that point the tiredness had hit me. I'm happy to have come home and decompressed

This is honestly the part I'm a little wary about.
We live together, and like any people who live together and any relationship, there's tension from time to time. Will a morning argument about the dishes not being put away spill over to work?
And conversely, there are tensions in any workplace, and things go wrong at work. Will work tensions spill over into our home life?
@AJSadauskas@StudChud
Start putting the dishes away, with a sincere enquiry about whether it is OK for you to be putting other peoples dishes away. Two birds with one stone.
If there's any sign of redness around the injury site - go see a doctor FAAAST. You might need a tetanus shot or antibiotics to stop infection. A blister is not a good sign.

One of the companies she works for has had a full time position open up, which involves managing their external contractors.
Being a sold trader works well for her, so she wants to turn it down. She wants to recommend me instead.
It's a good job. It gas decent pay.
Here's the tricky part: Were I to get this role, I would be responsible for managing this company's external contractors, including my partner.
In effect, I would be her "boss" to some extent.
Working with your spouse or partner is always tricky. Let alone being their manager.
Has anyone here worked with someone they're in a relationship with? What were the pros and cos? Did you disclose your relationship?
Should I take up the role? Or us it not worth tgd hassles?
Taleya@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 2y
Go in with full disclosure, they might shift her to a different supe for their own safety
StudChud@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 2y
Second this, it may be considered a conflict of interest
AJSadauskas@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 2y
This is honestly the part I'm a little wary about.
We live together, and like any people who live together and any relationship, there's tension from time to time. Will a morning argument about the dishes not being put away spill over to work?
And conversely, there are tensions in any workplace, and things go wrong at work. Will work tensions spill over into our home life?
stepchook@mastodon.au · 2 pts · 2y
@AJSadauskas @StudChud
Start putting the dishes away, with a sincere enquiry about whether it is OK for you to be putting other peoples dishes away. Two birds with one stone.
Catfish@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 2y
It might not be permitted at all. Check handbook.
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 2y
It depends on how well you get on with your partner. Go for it. Rake in the cash baby while you can.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 2y
If you respect each other's skills and roles it can be really good.

I took out a splinter from my finger yesterday.
This morning it's now a stupid blister and hurts like a mother. Left pointer finger as well which is a massive pain.
Argh.
Thornburywitch@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 2y
If there's any sign of redness around the injury site - go see a doctor FAAAST. You might need a tetanus shot or antibiotics to stop infection. A blister is not a good sign.
Duenan@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 2y
I'll keep an eye on it and see how it goes. I don't really need to panic at this point.
Eagle@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 2y
I watched a clip the other day of someone using a syringe to suck out a splinter, I've not had one since to try the theory out!
StudChud@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 2y
That's farked. I hate splinters and blisters. What a nightmare!

Mr Woof's evening turndown service was extremely exuberant tonight, with most of my doona ending up on the floor. There's nothing like having to make your bed before you can get in it.

Been wiped the last couple of days even though work was relatively easy. Trying to get the energy up to do more sorting and tidying. It doesn't help that the cats seem to have missed me and have been demanding snuggles.

I dont think the weather is helping tbh. My works been kind of dead too and its been draining cause you know the nice weather is gonna be taken away.

I really think we need to give this thread a different name like The Melbourne Yarn or The Melbourne Chit Chat / Shit Chat. Cmon marketing people what are your thoughts?
Thornburywitch@aussie.zone · 11 pts · 2y
Melbourne Shit Chat is brilliant!
RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 8 pts · 2y
It can change with mood, Chit Chat on a good day, Shit Chat for bad, and Shit Shat for the really bad days
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 2y
It's what my friends and I call a catch up.
I don't want anyone to feel like they can't talk serious stuff here.

Interesting. Iโm not against it but, the DT name is legendary. Why change?
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 2y
True. My feelings are that we've moved on from the motherland and could give it its own identity.
Also I'm a pot stirrer.

The Melbourne Yarn sounds like either a knitting group or a bunch of boring old men sitting around having painfully slow conversations that go nowhere. Something more active and exciting would be better. Maybe the Melbourne Choose Your Own Adventure thread.

Those things are honestly terrifying to me.
When I was in nepal on a school trip way back, we were going up single track on a cliff face and a whole lot of them were being herded down. they simply don't care if you're in the way, you have to step aside. I was caught on the wrong side of the track (with about 1km drop) and my life flashed before me.
I still get nightmares about that heh.

Thornburywitch@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 2y
Um, that's a Highland cow/bull. Not a yak as such.
This is a yak!
RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 2y
It's a Melbourne yak, so it should not be surprising that it is not quite authentic.

Is there an option to adjust the phase of the speakers at all? Subwoofers have that so they can push air properly in time with the other speakers
