Bruh, it can be both...
No one goes harder on July fourth than recent citizens.
Traditions and customs aren't a zero sum game. There's a reason America was known as the "mixing pot".

Diverse communities : Yes.
Close-knitting community : Yes.
Local traditions : Depends.
I don't like alcoholic or religious rituals. Ritualism by itself is great though.

Here in Cleveland, we have a tradition every sunday. We all drink a lot of beer, and cry. We just cry and cry and cry.
