My father kept us imprisoned in the house. He would take me to and from school, and my mother to and from work.

Sometimes I would be allowed to go with him to do the weekly food shopping. That was it. The rest of the time, we were props from him to unleash his insanity onto.

As I grew older, my mother convinced him to let her take me to the doctor with her, by ourselves. She would then tell me to go visit with friends, then we would meet back up and go home together, with him none the wiser.

Sometimes my mother is in my dreams and for a split second when I wake up I have forgotten she has passed away.

What a life it has been.

Both my parents were the prison wardens of my life; without hijacking your post I'll just say I grew up in a very uncharacteristic way for someone born early 70s. All those memes where they say they rode bikes all day with their friends and had to come home before the street lights came on and mucked about building cubbies etc., I cannot at all relate to. It's hard when you can be long out of an abusive situation and it still just randomly pops up for no reason, like you're out of it but never really free. It took a shamefully long time into my adulthood to realise that I am an adult, and have to employ my own initiative in life. I'm glad you're out of that situation, and I hope the random "pop up" trauma doesn't trouble you too much ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

Wouldn't hesitate to sue if I can. All proceeds from the suit for a parenting licensing scheme, with an in-person exam that's on par with or harder than a Masters degree university course.

My birth certificate got lost somewhere in the house a year or so ago and after many unsuccessful attempts to find it, I'd decided today was going to be the day I'd apply for a new one. Checked the Justice services joint in Broady was open and off I went on the bus and train. Sign on the door apologising for inconvenience but they are no longer processing BD&M requests, scan the QR code for a list of other locations and go there. Ok, so I did and Reservoir was the closest, so off I went on the bus and train. Get to Reservoir and the same sign is on their front door!

Ended up getting photocopied notarised documents and submitted online, which I didn't want to do because I hate sending personal ID documents online, would much rather do in person. I just don't feel safe. The website is an utter shitshow, wouldn't accept my postal address, I've seen window cleaning junkies work more effectively.

So I got home and baked brownies with the kids, and they are fudgy and delicious (the brownies not the kids)

The surf is roaring in the distance.. 'bout 1.5km away, honestly one of my favourite sounds. Then every few minutes the neighbours' cow moos and I lose my shit. I don't know why a random cow mooing at 1am is funny but it is. Dog barking isn't funny, plovers squawking isn't funny.. but when the cow goes it hits different.

StudChud@aussie.zone · 8 pts · 1y

Ive been playing (reading?) this compilation of interactive stories. Not quite a choose your own adventure, but you make choices for the main character (it reminds me of a dungeon master narrating a DnD game and you choose what spells or how to approach a situation). It's very compelling, I've finished the Wizard's stories.

However, this shows me that amateur male writers generally do not know, or care to know, how to write a good female character. I loved the cleric woman whom the main character teams with, but no, she would not wait in a room for days/weeks while I'm cavorting in The Abyss/Hell. She is a cleric who has been in combat and has bashed goblin heads and smote nasty evil. She would not wait in that room on the off chance I would return. Ffs.

It appears most of the series' in this collection are from a male point of view, and while I don't mind the 80s/90s-esque style of writing (calling women pretty things, etc) as it fits the silliness of medieval fantasy heavily inspired by DnD, I do mind when women character are just treated as props.

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 8 pts · 1y

Okay I've definitely had way too much caffiene and too much work time because my eyes feel very googly and I got that wired/tired thing going on. Someone make me dinner and take out the rubbish and put away the clothes and pack my bags for me please...

...wait, that someone has to be me? Bummer. ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ Gotta remind myself of my trip, true rest and recuperation is around the corner...

I have spilt coffee on myself twice today, which is twice too many. First I was walking along a footpath/bikepath and stepped on my partners heel accidentally, and he stopped to fix it and I just walked into the back of him and spilt coffee down my front. Glad I had a raincoat on lol.

Second was just now, and just out of pure unco-ness I just slopped some of my coffee onto my oodie.

Oh I forgot to mention their rose moscato isnโ€™t bad. I no longer drink and itโ€™d be too sweet now but I remember $5 used to get you some perfectly cromulent lolly water. Aldi booze is apparently good.

Thereโ€™s a Halo top knockoff and from what I remember the party pies and fish fingers are solid.

The handwash from what I remember is fine and the peanut butter was too. The classic lipstick tubes were nice.

(Just some tips on what was ok in case you wanted suggestions)

I occasionally pick up the pink moscato because I love the taste profile it has and they were still around 5 dollars from memory.

Lots of these - with big machines to chop metal things up into smaller bits. Until recently there was one in Weston St in Brunswick - just near Barkly Square and next door to the Comanchero Bikie Gang headquarters. Not a coincidence I think.

Had a dream that UFC was on at the MCG and I had lounge tickets, so I went and took my cat. Just carried him around with me and he was entranced because there was a parade of women wearing huge, sparkly ballgowns. The food in the lounge sucked and tbh it kind of resembled some old rich personโ€™s house with pale pink carpets and curtains. Pretty sure I went ringside and watched a fight, but the cat wasnโ€™t enjoyed it, so we went back up to the lounge. Cat and I went home where I found out that Lizzo was going to be playing at the AFL Grand Final alongside Katy Perry.

Itโ€™s really just pre-herbed flour. But if you donโ€™t do much else with besan itโ€™s handy rather than having loads of plain in the house for moths to get at.

I think last time I made waffles I must have done a half batch. This time I did a full batch and I now have 16 waffles in the freezer for future consumption, along with a couple in my tummy.

I also stewed up my remaining apples and pears with some spice & brown sugar, a couple of serves are in the freezer, one was eaten on the waffles and one is waiting to be topped with yoghurt for a future snack. I'm starting to run out of room in the freezer!

Big day in the garden today. Managed to piss off a fair few bull ants pulling weeds out. Been bitten a couple of times before and what I learned was when that formic acid smell hits, take a break to let them chill.

That brings us to the rave once again, from Fred again. Ants are saying everybody... leavemealone

Does anyone here have any knowledge on share dividends and what it means to have it fully franked?

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

It's a bit like when your employer pays part of your pay to the ATO in anticipation of future tax. If the company distributes money they have already paid tax on you will have a dividend that is paid directly to you, plus an amount that has been paid in tax. Fully franked means the company has paid tax on the whole lot, partially franked means they only paid tax on a part of it. When you come to do your tax return the ATO will work out how much you actually owe (based on the tax rate for your income) and either ask for a bit more tax or refund the extra.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (1 reply)

no

prolly one of those things where wiki would be useful

here you go, easy as abc https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_dividend_imputation_system

Duenan@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

I still sort of don't understand it.

Does the franking amount get added to a dividend payout?

Bottom_racer@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y (3 replies)

Fully franked you get a credit for entire dividend amount and can offset your tax with that credit.

might help

Duenan@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y (2 replies)

Let's say I have a dividend payout of 20cent and it's 100% franked.

If it's fully franked do I only get 20cents? or more than 20c?

Bottom_racer@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y (1 reply)

You get (20c / (1-0.3)) -20c = A franking credit of about 8.5c

so you're ending up getting 20c + 8.5c or 28.5c. It's to avoid double taxation.

Duenan@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

oh ok, I didn't realise you get the franking credit as well.
