Outside state-level things, it really doesn't.

Although, here in Missouri, an abortion ban, a $15 minimum wage, and a Republican candidate for governor who would refuse to implement both if passed are all on the ballot, so yes, GTFO and vote.

Kira would be at the polls early for a chance to vote that broad out.

This reminds me of my favorite blurb I've found while browsing Memory Alpha:

Although the writing staff of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine had spent almost the entirety of the show's second season planning to make Bareil the new kai, electing Winn to that position was a last-minute decision. "We were all sitting in the room," recalled Robert Hewitt Wolfe, "and it occurred to us, 'God, we could […] make Winn the kai. That's a scary idea!'"

Technically two votes would matter. Because in this scenario, your vote would’ve led to a tie. So you’d need someone else to break the tie.

A little while back, my hometown’s mayoral election was decided by a difference of just 5 votes. Unfortunately, the candidate I didn’t like won the election. I didn’t live there anymore and wasn’t able to vote, but it really showed me the importance of voting at all levels of government.
