White: ✋

Transparent: 👈

SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de · 21 pts · 1y (5 replies)

transparent custom shells already exist. the problem is, that transparent plastics tend to be more brittle than solid colors

Nindelofocho@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 1y (3 replies)

Ive done a shell swap on my steam deck and while Its worth it and it looks amazing it was a PROCESS because you have to unglue the screen and the touch pads (if you want to swap those too) you basically disassemble the entire device

maplebar@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 1y

Yeah, I'd love to do it myself, but once I saw that you have to unglue the screen I decided that I have enough projects going on right now. lol

Scribbd@feddit.nl · 3 pts · 1y

Did this too. Can confirm, it was quite the process.

Bosht@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y

Yup. Was SUPER tedious and time consuming. Worth it tho.

xthexder@l.sw0.com · 5 pts · 1y

There's actually an official transparent case Steam Deck too. They had the limited edition OLED when it first came out.

Kit@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 54 pts · 1y (10 replies)

Fuck, I just bought my OLED model a week ago.

M600@lemmy.world · 86 pts · 1y (5 replies)

The white looks, cool but I think it will look dirty a bit faster. Also, the white boarder may be a bit distracting

I always prefer the dark colors around screens.

MarauderIIC@dormi.zone · 23 pts · 1y (4 replies)

Yeah - my first thought was literally "that will look dirty quick"

TwinTusks@bitforged.space · 10 pts · 1y (3 replies)

It'll be yellow in few months.

ThoGot@lemm.ee · 7 pts · 1y (2 replies)

I doubt that to be honest. White plastic got better since the 90s

Whitebrow@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Unless it can repel Cheeto dust that thing is changing colours.

pewgar_seemsimandroid@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 2 pts · 1y

real men eat blue takis. 🧏🤫

dditty@lemm.ee · 20 pts · 1y (1 reply)

You can still shell swap or vinyl wrap your OLED, replace joysticks and buttons, etc. It's cooler to customize it in that way imo

ricecake@sh.itjust.works · 36 pts · 1y

The notion of getting a special edition white one, then swapping the shell to a custom black is funny.

TheGrandNagus@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 1y

Idk where you live, but a number of countries give you a 14 day cool-off period where you can return purchases for any reason.

Scio@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 1y

Eternally thankful this isn't a rerun of the translucent black edition. I too got my first OLED delivered last week.

Grass@sh.itjust.works · 35 pts · 1y (6 replies)

white plastics have a history of becomig yellow

rustydrd@sh.itjust.works · 18 pts · 1y (1 reply)

It's called a patina, and it's an intended side-effect of repeated use that increases performance.

Grass@sh.itjust.works · 12 pts · 1y

ah, just like how cam out is a feature of phillips screws that improves the spinning performance of the driver

TheGrandNagus@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 1y

Ngl a 90s PC beige steam deck would be amazing to run emudeck on

coronach@lemmy.sdf.org · 10 pts · 1y

That might be an appealing retro aesthetic to have!

magikmw@lemm.ee · 1 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Ngl I was convinced for a good while it's mostly a result of smoking near them.

Grass@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 1y

I mean that will do it too, but it will be sticky and stain your skin and also smell awful

InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world · 30 pts · 1y

As sexy as it looks I feel it might look dirty fast.

LiveLM@lemmy.zip · 17 pts · 1y (3 replies)

Man, I couldn't get one over the fear of it getting yellowed but it looks cleannn, love the grey buttons

Bosht@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 1y (1 reply)

If you already own a steamdeck they sell replacement shells. Be forewarned though installation is absolutely insane and takes a loooot of time. I've had white installed on mine for about a year and have had no issues with it yellowing.

knightly@pawb.social · 1 pts · 1y

The back half of the shell is easy though, I swapped mine with a transluscent purple backplate a few months back. ^_^

Obi@sopuli.xyz · 2 pts · 1y

I thought this wasn't really a thing anymore with modern white plastic, no? It'll still get more visibly dirty though.

Nilz@sopuli.xyz · 15 pts · 1y (5 replies)

Finally a good solution to my white sd-card. It looks so bad in my black Steam Deck.

vodka@lemm.ee · 21 pts · 1y (3 replies)

I solved this issue with the magic of a black whiteboard marker.

TheGrandNagus@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y (2 replies)

I tried this but even permanent marker kept rubbing off

This is genius

lud@lemm.ee · 3 pts · 1y

I barely notice it.

The SD card slot is pointing down when I use it.

I also have a case which makes it even harder to see.

HouseWolf@lemm.ee · 3 pts · 1y

I owned a white original model PSP and that thing never looked clean after the first week no matter what I did.

Honestly people who go all white on everything kinda terrify me...

01011@monero.town · -7 pts · 1y

Is this the MAGA Edition?
