The place I'm staying at has Alexa whatever things all over the house. I have given in and used them for timers and alarm clocks so I can reduce use of my phone especially first thing in the morning. It helps that I have to actually use my voice if I want to silence the alarm. So of course I blearily told it to stop for 3 separate alarms this morning - 7, 7:15 and 7:30.

Eventually woke up at 8ish and asked it what the time was and it said "The time is 8:05 am. Happy Friday! ๐Ÿ˜‡ "

Is it possible to ask Alexa to be more of a curmudgeonly bitch?

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 3y (14 replies)

People that say 'happy Friday' should be given 50 lashes in the public square.

People that say 'happy ****day' for any other of the week, should be removed from society via catapult or trebuchet

I think the only exceptions are happy birthday/easter/mother's day/father's day. That's it. People shouldn't over complicate things.

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 3y

Special occasions are fine. They're special. Regular days aren't and so shall they remain.

bull@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 3y

There are so many things you can do it with! I should warn you though.. all of the things you ask it get logged and the owner of the devices can see a list of what you've said to it in their Alexa app. I can't remember if it actually saves the audio of you asking or not too.

landsharkkidd@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 3y

I would say that's petty high for July. Usually it does get a little warmer in July but maybe between 13 - 15c. Our record high in July has been 21.

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 3y (3 replies)

We'll have none of that moralistic judgement and hetro-normative focus on penetration around here thanks. Love is love, and what happens between consenting plugs and ports is their business.

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 3y (2 replies)

And why should pleasure only come from penetration anyway? I say we need to normalise tickling, fondling, blowing and licking (with mutual consent) as equally valid expressions of love and trust. I, for one, have witnessed the great emotional release involved in the ritual "right side up?" foreplay so often engaged with hetero USB-A intercourse.

Taleya@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 3y

A usb plug can be made to fit a hdmi socket (hence the 'well you can' comment) but yeah, the pins don't match up so you get nada. Possibly some damage to parts if you get gung ho about jamming it in there

I am enjoying my second pub meal in one day. I highly recommend blowing off work, booking a random motel at the last minute and escaping to country Vic. Hi from Yackandandah.

PeelerSheila@aussie.zone · 11 pts · 3y (10 replies)

Day 2 of intermediate body shred challenge completed, plus tummy exercises. I got home from work last night, did 2 loads of washing, very begrudgingly cooked dinner, which was lovely, had exhausting argument with elder minipeeler about doing homework and basically collapsed into bed without doing my evening exercises ๐Ÿ˜” Both minipeelers are home sick today. Made a breakfast juice with ginger, pear, spinach, apple celery and a small beetroot. I'd show you a picture but, you know, it's a purple ploppy looking juice.

Bonus picture of dinner

Picture is of steak with mash, peas and broccoli, chargrilled zucchini and red Brussels sprouts cooked in a mushroom cream sauce, thereby negating any health benefits of said sprouts. I seem to cook better when I'm tired and pissed off.

Rejected again, I'm unemployable
Dejected again, unenjoyable
But I got fishnet stockings on, feeling neat
I'll dance my bleeding heart out, undefeated
I'll keep trying to be another wage-drone
In a capitalist landscape that wants me gone
I don't care anymore, I know I am qualified
Don't care about my failings being quantified
I'm ready to dance, I'm ready to go
Where I'll end up, I do not know
But whereever it is, it's where I'm meant to be
Tonight I'll let loose, and pretend I am free

Iโ€™m drawing landscapes just to learn how to use digital brushes and itโ€™s a bit frustrating. Each one seems to look a tad crappier than the last. (The first wasnโ€™t bad.) But you know, itโ€™s that or sitting for long periods with pencils or standing to paint. Or doing nothing. For some reason I canโ€™t currently focus on books.

Iโ€™m using a $10 Big W stylus (Cygnett) and $10 Procreate Pocket on phone. Just canโ€™t seem to do a smooth flowing sketch line like I can with a traditional pencil (my posture and screen size doesnโ€™t help) so Iโ€™m fudging a lot with paint and smudge tool. One of the brushes stopped working? The features and layers are also limited so maybe this is intended to take visual notes while out for doing fully later.

Itโ€™s not bad to experiment with though if you donโ€™t put pressure on yourself and have some music on in the background.

Really annoying that r/ArtFundamentals went private right when I got interested in trying to learn with exercises.

Well that's another job I didn't get... As much as I like working for the APS, I'm getting very sick of their drawn out recruitment process that seems to go no where for me no matter how much effort I put in. What sucks is I'm desperate to get out of my current job but I can't just quit because I'll lose all the clearances that come with being an APS employee, which make me ever so slightly more favourable when I do apply for jobs. This whole thing is definitely becoming a huge rut for me.

I love mein Opa. He loves pulling apart dangerous appliances (think microwaves) that he finds during hard-rubbish, and refurbishing them. He built the sun-room by himself, and wired it all back in the 70s, we have Sunday Lunch in it still. He browses the internet and knows how to research, learning from YT how phones and PCs are made.

But he had to ask me for help, bc his Samsung Android phone kept notifying him every 5 minutes or so that he had a msg. I had to pop into the settings and show him how to turn the 'reminder' feature off.

He's the best.

Update on the neighbour dog barking. I heard from another neighbour that the owners have gone to Europe, it seems like they've just left the dog at the house and expect whoever to visit and feed it, and it's being left outside all day and night. I'm not sure if anyone is pet sitting or living at the house, there's no cars around. Going on holiday doesn't absolve you of your responsibilities as a dog owner. Dogs need exercise and attention, it ain't getting any of that so it's barking around the clock. I called the council but they're useless. Goodbye sleep and sanity.

In better news, off for Friday knock-off drinks soon. This weather is perfect for beer.

Those nitotine lozenges work pretty well for cravings. Jump back on the wagon. You can do it. I did and I was going through about 5 bottles of vodka a week in my last bender. I know it's not that simple but hit me up if you want a sober buddy, I'm serious. I'm not suggesting for a second I think you're an alcoholic or anything less than powerful but alcohol ends up a part of many facets of life and creeps. Having some sober people around helps.

I take a non habit forming sleep tablet, which is actually an anti-anxiety / anti-d, but in lower doses just helps getting to sleep and getting back to sleep when I wake up. I tried not using a couple of nights and went back to my normal less then average sleep pattern for what that is worth.

vanishing_spies@aussie.zone · 8 pts · 3y

Ugh. How much do friend arguments suck. You've only got my side of the story, but they were absolutely being an immature brat about a work thing they're going through. And during their ranting, they also managed to direct some insults at me. Uncalled for dude. And I actually think they could be using this work situation to their advantage. Hopefully we can move past this, because I have since apologised (though between us I lowkey think I shouldn't be apologising lmao), but so be it if we don't. Is there an app for this? The site on my phone in Chrome is quite busy.

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 8 pts · 3y

I started the sign-up process with Sumo Energy, then realised there was no option to put a date of change in so didn't continue (I have fixed rate until the end of August). They have been sending me regular emails, and have now upgraded to offering me a $50 fuel voucher if I sign up. Apparently waiting pays.

Llabyrinthine@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 3y

Two nights of crap sleep has left me all sorts of roller-coastery today. le sigh Also just faffed around for two hours+ in an attempt to find a dress. Nada. Everything is just so unappealing?

Also, is it just me, but is our fast food getting even more junkier? I mean, I canโ€™t talk. I love me a good robust munch (not to mention burgs), butโ€ฆ it just feels like every new offering is a bun/crumbed/deep fried. I worry for usโ€ฆ

Gotta get out of this funky meh.

Llabyrinthine@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 3y

So there is no doubt Iโ€™m late to the party, but I was beyond pleased to find that I could add voice recordings to MS PP for each slide, have them auto play and set up the slide to go to the next after each (timed) and then export it as a video. The amount of times I have re-recorded videos in the pastโ€ฆ Why did I not realise this sooner. Definite large rock I live under.

Gonna make a shitload of spring rolls today and rebuild The Stashโ„ข.

Putting in heaps of the coriander forest because that's gonna bolt in this 420ppm the nino AMOC ice extent SSTA six sigma tic tac madness.

Also lots of chilli going in from last season that's in the freezer. I've found if you put red food dye on the uncooked pastry (as a warning), it actually stays a very bright red after deep frying.

StudChud@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 3y

I read it a few times but all I parse is word-salad

Bottom_racer@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 3y (7 replies)

climate heh. Bear with me..

420ppm is CO2 parts per million El nino AMOC = Atlantic meridional overturning circulation. Ppl worried it's slowing. Antarctic ice extent SSTA = sea surface temperature anomaly six sigma = six standard deviations away from the mean for both north atlantic SSTA and Antarctic sea ice extent tic tac is the alien ship from the recent UFO revelations that's (some believe) come to save our climate and corianders.

I read a lot of doom porn :(

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 3y

The aliens came all this way just to save coriander? Surely there is more worthy of saving than that? Like penguins. And Rhinosaurus Beetles.

cherryripesalmoncake@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 3y (3 replies)

Wait, so are you planting more coriander because it is more likely to run and therefore produce less leafy growth due to the climate/lack of alien intervention.. or putting more in the spring rolls to enjoy now while it can still be grown? Or something else?

Bottom_racer@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 3y (2 replies)

Given the warm temps and without tic tac intervention, the little 1m^2^ crop I have is bolting :( It's to enjoy it now when it's full of fluffy green foliage.

I've never seen it start to go into seed mid winter. Maybe it's a false spring?

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 3y (1 reply)

Is it just overgrown? I've kept coriander plants growing for about 18 months by pinching off all the flowers and things but after a while it just wants to procreate and die

I think the gas ban needs more education. So many people still believe that it's more efficient using a gas heater than reverse cycle.

We're now better off burning the gas in a power plant, and running reverse cycles than using gas heating itself.

Get to review (not so much give it a score but to review) Rachet and Clank: Rift Apart on PC for my 1st job, except it kept on freezing last night which is frustrating. Had to send Insomniac (the devs) a message about it because it was annoying. I have the minimum and even recommended specs for the game, lowered the graphics to medium and it still freezed. Hopefully when I mentioned in the email "I got a review code for this" it'll bump up the issue.

bull@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 3y (3 replies)

Speaking of games freezing, I was having a couple of games freeze/crash after 30+ minutes of gameplay which was annoying me. Turns out it was happening because I undervolted my GPU a while back. Was annoying to troubleshoot but all good now. That'll teach me for trying to be clever.

landsharkkidd@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 3y (2 replies)

How the hell did you do that?

bull@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 3y (1 reply)

Undervolt? Through MSI Afterburner, customising the Voltage/Frequency curve. I followed a guide I found online for my specific GPU (3080 Ti) which seemed to work fine but yeah, when the performance was pushed it was no bueno so I just set it back to default.

I hope they help you out! I have heard they are one of the better devs kicking around these days!!

But yeah I'm super disappointed about the freezing. It seems I'm not the only one with the issue as well.
