I've given this advice to many new riders and almost no ever takes it, but after a few months they usually say they should have. Buy literally any used bike that's in your budget and is a reliable make/model. Preferably not super powerful or super heavy either. In 6 months time you will A: know if motorcycling is for you, and B: know a hell of a lot more about what kind of bike you want. Plus there's a good chance you'll drop your first bike (happens to most people) and dropping a brand new bike feels bad.

It's not a call to action of: Buy more soft plastic for us to recycle! It should be: You can now trust us to recycle any soft plastic you have, but society needs to reduce production and consumption as well.
If this reduction is done successfully then the recycling plants will be in a weird spot of needing to plan to reduce throughput/capacity down the road.
But yeah, I'm also glad soft recycling is back and better.
I'd hope that If he's smart enough to feel tired of repping big oil, and continues to be good enough to play pro baseball for a while, I'm sure he can find a way to live a comfortable and happy life. If he starts actively attacking big oil... that might be harder...
Yep. We changed our home lightbulbs to LED, we got more efficient heating/cooling systems and appliances installed in our homes. (My gov provided incentives for these things). I thought it was to reduce our energy consumption and save us some cash on bills. But nup, turns out it just freed up energy to burn on LLM data centres.
Haha, I was actually trying to refer to some kind of solar panel that would shade pedestrians when it's hot and get outta tha way when it's not. I had forgotten that a tree is solar powered 😂
Yeah, a lot to think about and forward plan. In Australia I think the social engineering required to detach people from cars would be the hardest part 😅
Some kind of "deciduous" solar panel in those pedstrian areas would be cool. Or something to that effect~
Absolutely all of this. And agreed. But I think part of the Solar Punk ethos is to pose these questions and speculate on dream implementations of current tech in ways that can offer nicer/more staisfying outcomes. Part of that would be taking a bit more time instead of racing towards the quickest goal post.
And some of the ideas will still stink, but hey haha, it's fun.
I buy music on Bandcamp (1 to 5 albums/EPs/etc per Bandcamp Friday). Nowadays it's mostly stand-out local acts. I also go to their gigs when I can. I might buy their CD and occasionally buy merch.
I also subscribe to 2 local community radio stations. They are awesome pillars of the local music scene. Run by incredibly passionate people who care. Very happy to give them my money, rather than big corps.
I no longer pay for streaming. Just radio, BC and local files. One day I'll make a server (maybe...)
I did pirate in my student days - mostly larger artists. I wouldn't feel right doing it now with small bands, and being a music-maker myself. Nah. But not against it in general.
I Op shop (thrift store) for CDs too, but super rare to find anything good. Was in New Zealand recently and a lot of their record stores had good CD selections, so bought a bunch. That was cool.
Just this morning I signed up to Subvert as an artist and may do so as a member too. Interested to delve into it a bit more.
