If you just wanna comment on songs, I post a song a day on the dbzer0 instance Music comm. I've been seeing the .world instance Music comm do the same recently. Maybe they always have; I catch up local (my instance), then all (everything I've not blocked), so I don't see everything on .world and other bigger instances).

So, I'd always say support your local instance first, but, there are other choices out there. Other instances have Music comms (and more specific genre comms) but those are the ones on my instance and your instance.
I don't make music though, I just post stuff other people make. My ideal is to give equal weight to the classics (what I grew up on and what came before) and the modern era (what was popular around the time I grew up/got married to now); to music from the west and foreign music... but I don't always meet this ideal. Really, I get up, make coffee, and think about what song I feel like featuring. If I woke up humming, it's probably gonna be that. If I draw a blank, I have a scratch pad (digitally) with ideas I can draw from.

I find myself to be very easily influenced by the music I listen to when I write, so for about 3 weeks I stopped listening to music. The only things I heard were whatever was playing at work and whatever my daughter and gf would play in the car for a few minutes. I effectively stripped my mind of all outside musical influence. Then I started writing this song. This is my personal musical style distilled down to purity. It's instrumental prog metal. I play all guitars and bass and I programmed the drums the way I would play them if I were that good. I call it "ThunderChunk: Triple Distilled"

I hear you. I once wrote a song that was a bit too similar to one of my favorites and I had to spend weeks tweaking it just enough to make it my own but not so much that I wouldn't associate it with that song I loved anymore
I like your song! You have a good ear for melody. It certainly doesn't lack vocals, I can say that for sure! The mixing is nice and clear throughout The bridge at 4:50 flows really nicely. The pacing keeps you engaged, and the way you don't rest too long on one idea makes that 8 minutes a smooth and pleasant journey. Nice work!
