Is it ridiculous? Yes.
But I do think it’s a fun workaround to avoid time paradoxes for the writer.

Before the gunpowder ignites in the bullet, it does a boolean check on whether or not the date is before its date of manufacturing. If not, then the gunpowder doesn't light. It's that simple.
