Why does at least one kernel of a pomegranate, no matter how ripe or fresh it is, taste like dirty old socks?

Never had that experience. To me fresh pomegranate tastes fruity, sour, and delicious and is one of the last things I would associate with dirty socks. Maybe it could be something to do with your own sense of taste?

Maybe? It's always just one though and then it spoils the whole scoop. It's like a bad grape if you grab a handful. It might be just me lol. You never know about these things.

Good point, could be that one was bad, I've had bad oranges which were bitter. Maybe with pomegranates it tastes different, not just bitter but pungent too.
