Took apart and (almost, so far) rebuilt a fancy outdoor umbrella. Thing blew over last summer and broke a rib / pulley system.

The man: He pushes the trolley so I can concentrate on my list. He is slow. He likes to look at everything. He says it's because he doesn't come that often. By the time I've reached the end he's still sniffing and fondling the fruit. I have to walk back to the trolley constantly. He doesn't forget anything. He browses quietly except for the odd "should we get this" or "didn't you say we needed this".
He scans. I pack. He loads everything in the car. Returns the trolley.
The kid: She pushes the trolley. She likes to look at everything. She's quick but likes to point everything out. "Can I have this" "put it in" "can I have this" "put it in" "can I have this" "whatever". Eventually she stops asking because I'm not even looking. I'm concentrating. I may have forgotten stuff. She costs me an extra $50.
She scans. I pack. I push the trolley to the car, load it and return the trolley.
Question: Which one would you prefer to shop with, the slow poke who does everything for you or the octopus who doesn't hold you up?
Ps. They shop together quite often. I can see why it takes them so long to get back from buying ice cream.
I think I'd prefer the slow poke, but I am conflicted. I did learn eventually to NEVER shop with my bloke. He was a menace in colesworth - filling up entire trolleys with stuff that caught his eye but nothing on the agreed upon list. He was also a 'specials' victim of the worst possible stripe. The incident of the 10 2 litre containers of vinegar still scars me to this day (But it was on special!).
We ended up with me doing the household staples and frozen stuff, and him doing the fresh food - separately. So I'd give him a vague list and tell him to come back with 5 kg (or whatever) of animal protein and 5 kg of fruit. He could choose what sort for each. We did have a productive veggie patch so we really only bought spuds & onions as staples. I think this satisfied his hunter/gatherer instincts better than an exact list. And enabled me to keep my temper better. And relieved the pressure on the pantry storage. And enabled me to keep better tabs on what was in the freezer and how much room was left for new stuff.
Hahaha. The vinegar 😂. I can relate. I might say I've run out of paper towel and he'll come in with 5 packets because they were on special.
He also buys the fruit on his way home. I'll ask for a capsicum and he'll come in with a bag full because they were cheap and he doesn't want to look like a tight arse buying just one.
I think Aldi is one place I do deviate more because Centre Asile of Dreams must be explored. And their frozen section tends to come up with something bizarre!
I will have a quick browse of the frozen section for some easy junk food. Tendies/Pies/Spanikopta/etc are all cheaper than take away and satisfy the same cravings.
Probably the quick octopus for the same reason as Bottom, but then I’d prefer not to have the extra expense (and inevitable junk food, if it was my kid). It’s a dilemma. Maybe send them both and you stay home and relax?
E: Although, it’s Aldi and the checkouts get frantic so it would be nice to have help with all that, and not have to return the trolley 🤔

I messed up. It all started when I tried a different facial cleanser, which caused me to break out near one corner of my mouth. Then I woke up during the night and in my blurry brained state decided to dab some ti tree oil on it. I grabbed the 100% pure one by mistake and used it. It's kind of burned my face and I now have weeping irritated skin there. Looks a treat I can tell you!

They seriously do, my boys love watching videos of diggers, cars, and trains. I wish I could take them down Epping Road during the week so they could see all the roadwork going on. They always point to an excavator when they see one and say, 'Diggy!'

Karen had a unique voice. Bearing in mind that all her recordings were pre-autotune, she always hit the exact middle of the note she was singing. No hovering up and down even when doing vibrato. Apparently this is a rare talent when it's natural.
She is beloved by anyone with perfect pitch. Even most opera singers can't hit a note the way she can. And it was all pre-auto tune which imo makes it all the more impressive.
As a kid who who was into computers in the 80's - a period where that was social suicide, my music tastes were the least of my problems! 😆
The 80's meant I was late to the party, but my music was mostly what my older siblings played and my sister loved The Carpenters.
Same! The opening scene on S2 E01 was so good, I knew instantly that as much artistry had been put into season 2 as season 1. Love everything about this show. The story, the mystery, the filming, the aesthetic is 💯, actors are brilliant. And the social commentary, oof. Leaves you with plenty to think about.
From the sound of the reviews where people have been given advance screenings of the full season, it seems like they've been able to keep up the quality, which is amazing given the major delays including the writers strike and so many other things.

Depends who's making it! The kitchen manager at work occasionally brings in a jelly slice and it's just magnificent. I don't know what she does but it's divine. No lamingtons have ever topped the size and freshness of the ones I used to get in primary school on their annual fundraising lamington drive. I adore hedgehog, but there are too many dry lacklustre examples out there, and I've been frequently disappointed. As for pav, a perfect pav is food of the gods but again, so many meh ones out there. And vanilla slice is frequently an abomination, but a really good one is just... Hey can you guys just hang on a sec? (Inches towards front door) I'll, um, I'll be back in a minute, I've just got to, um, put petrol in the car (dashes out door without car keys)
Ok. Let me explain. It has a biscuit base like a cheese cake. The middle is like a panna cotta (like a really really weak custard made with condensed milk) and jelly on top. When it's done really well, it beats all the rest because it's not sickly sweet.
I also don't particularly like cheesecake. Bit then there is Roman cheesecake wich is more a whole baked ricotta as MF is fantastic, but a once a decade sort of thing

Personally I find melatonin is better for making yourself fall asleep earlier on time, rather than fall asleep when it's too late. So for example if you want to start falling asleep at 8pm and you don't feel remotely sleepy that's when you take the melatonin. Better for correcting sleep phases than actually helping you sleep like a sedative. Bad side effects are feeling like crap in the morning and weird dreams... btw I think your dream could be interpreted quite creatively as an allegory about trust and boundaries.
As someone who has been notoriously bad at waking up early and never been a morning person I will say that having a regular job that gets you out of the house will eventually help get you used to it. Money is a great motivator.
So Severance aside I started watching this TV show called The Pitt, which is kind of like prestige/HBO ER in the modern day, ...

... Yes, some of the writing is a bit trite and the format is possibly better watched in one shot rather than weekly (each hour tracks an actual hour in the day of the ER. It's really easy to forget what's going on amidst all the medical lingo). But a lot of the interactions around the seemingly simpler cases are so fascinating. Really tight character work and great acting developing the ensemble cast while keeping some things a mystery to find out later.
And then there's the real heartbreaking tearjerkers - the sibling pair with the elderly dad is absolutely wrecking me, especially this last episode 😭 I keep thinking what those conversations would be like when it's my mum's time to go and I am overcome with grief that it would be so much colder, and harder to forgive her for so much, and without the strong sibling bond...

I dunno if I can wait till the end of the season to watch all the rest at once even though that's how I'd prefer to enjoy it. I guess I'll think of it as my weekly Emotional Release Show.

I loved ER and this is from the same team (and has Dr Carter!). I'm super keen to watch it but sticking to my "one streaming platform at a time" rule, maybe in a month or two.
My recommendation is wait until it's almost finished and then binge a couple episodes a day. Because of the real-time format it makes me really want to watch it all at one go.
(I'm only watching whatever I want on any platform because of this creaky ship with a bottle of rum...)

When I shop in person and have the list I don't wander the aisles at all, just go straight to what I want then leave.
Tho I do love to browse somewhat at QVM. See new and unusual foods and check for quality and prices.

Mine is 13 and hasn't stopped. Trains occupy up about 50% of his mind. He wants to go back to Melbourne and ride on the trains.

Me too. I basically kidnapped my brothers' Meccano sets. Hours of good clean fun and many bandaids for the cuts you get from the razor sharp edges.

Karen had a unique voice. Bearing in mind that all her recordings were pre-autotune, she always hit the exact middle of the note she was singing. No hovering up and down even when doing vibrato. Apparently this is a rare talent when it's natural.

She is beloved by anyone with perfect pitch. Even most opera singers can't hit a note the way she can. And it was all pre-auto tune which imo makes it all the more impressive.

Same! The opening scene on S2 E01 was so good, I knew instantly that as much artistry had been put into season 2 as season 1. Love everything about this show. The story, the mystery, the filming, the aesthetic is 💯, actors are brilliant. And the social commentary, oof. Leaves you with plenty to think about.

wooooo slide supports cut down all fancy like (had to do some trimming around the doorframe) to fit in the upper reaches of the laundry cupboard, slide nicely past the doors, now to make up the frame and fit for the actual "drawer" part with poles, then we have a pull out clothesline for inclement weather!
of the things I miss about the old place: The trees, the quiet (were further away from south road) and having a deep carport that meant I could clothesline the washing no matter what the weather

Depends who's making it! The kitchen manager at work occasionally brings in a jelly slice and it's just magnificent. I don't know what she does but it's divine. No lamingtons have ever topped the size and freshness of the ones I used to get in primary school on their annual fundraising lamington drive. I adore hedgehog, but there are too many dry lacklustre examples out there, and I've been frequently disappointed. As for pav, a perfect pav is food of the gods but again, so many meh ones out there. And vanilla slice is frequently an abomination, but a really good one is just... Hey can you guys just hang on a sec? (Inches towards front door) I'll, um, I'll be back in a minute, I've just got to, um, put petrol in the car (dashes out door without car keys)

Ok. Let me explain. It has a biscuit base like a cheese cake. The middle is like a panna cotta (like a really really weak custard made with condensed milk) and jelly on top. When it's done really well, it beats all the rest because it's not sickly sweet.

Personally I find melatonin is better for making yourself fall asleep earlier on time, rather than fall asleep when it's too late. So for example if you want to start falling asleep at 8pm and you don't feel remotely sleepy that's when you take the melatonin. Better for correcting sleep phases than actually helping you sleep like a sedative. Bad side effects are feeling like crap in the morning and weird dreams... btw I think your dream could be interpreted quite creatively as an allegory about trust and boundaries.
As someone who has been notoriously bad at waking up early and never been a morning person I will say that having a regular job that gets you out of the house will eventually help get you used to it. Money is a great motivator.

So Severance aside I started watching this TV show called The Pitt, which is kind of like prestige/HBO ER in the modern day, ...
::: spoiler no spoilers just comments ... Yes, some of the writing is a bit trite and the format is possibly better watched in one shot rather than weekly (each hour tracks an actual hour in the day of the ER. It's really easy to forget what's going on amidst all the medical lingo). But a lot of the interactions around the seemingly simpler cases are so fascinating. Really tight character work and great acting developing the ensemble cast while keeping some things a mystery to find out later.
And then there's the real heartbreaking tearjerkers - the sibling pair with the elderly dad is absolutely wrecking me, especially this last episode 😭 I keep thinking what those conversations would be like when it's my mum's time to go and I am overcome with grief that it would be so much colder, and harder to forgive her for so much, and without the strong sibling bond... :::
I dunno if I can wait till the end of the season to watch all the rest at once even though that's how I'd prefer to enjoy it. I guess I'll think of it as my weekly Emotional Release Show.
