Infinity was my app of choice for like 2ish years, it still works with Reddit atm but when I moved to Lemmy the only real app was Jerboa, and man it was not the same
I delt with it tho, in the hopes that one day Infinity would be for Lemmy
And omg ITS BACK BAYBE
I am way too stocked over a Lemmy app, but man Infinity is lightning fast, super smooth, and beyond customizable! So I won't be needing Jerboa or Liftoff anymore
Pretty sure the original developer of Infinity is one of the few people who will try to follow Reddit's new API rules and charge a subscription fee to cover it. At least that was the case a few months ago. Not sure what's currently happening.
Same here! This is the beauty of open source software!!! Nothing is required from the original dev for the community to take the software and repurpose it for something else.
I'm the same as you, it immediately feels familiar and intuitive. For a while there learning a new app while also learning how lemmy worked was like learning a new language, haha
Just downloaded and holy crap, this thing is smooth as butter. Already more functional than that $115 closed-source alternative. Instant switch for me.
The Sync dev is currently charging $20 USD to remove ads, or $100 for a lifetime subscription to "Ultra" which includes some additional features. I have to say, the app is really nice, but the dev is out of his mind.
With that being said, it's not FREE to use if I'm getting ads, I'm just paying with something other than money. I'll continue to use one of the many alternatives.
I've been using Obtainium instead and loaded Infinity through it this morning. You can also have it pull from f-droid repos instead of GitHub if you want when that hits
Edit: Currently the app is in prerelease so you'll need to toggle that option. Once they have a full release you can toggle it back off.
I am too, and new to Infinity overall. I was patiently awaiting Sync but became sadly disappointed with how aggressive it was monetized. Infinity does what I need:
searching for posts over all communities (*and instances!)
I've been waiting for this for so long. Everything about Infinity for Reddit happened to suit my tastes, so this will make using Lemmy so much easier. Thanks!
I've been using the app for the past day+ and I only get an ad every 25 posts and none everywhere else, even comments.
I prefer foss, been using linux since 2018, but I don't see why every dev should have to contribute if they don't want to. At the end of the day, it means more active users on lemmy.
What every person puts on their phone is up to them. (I also might switch to infinity now that it's out too.)
Shame on a single developer to want to be compensated for the work he's put into an app. How dare he try to make a living! How dare he go against your will!
If you don't like it then move on. Publicly shaming a non-issue, lol.
Also, if you're so upset with an app "infested with ads" but you are savvy enough to be in the know about third party fediverse apps, maybe you should look into a whole home ad blocker.
Ostracizing someone for trying to make a living. What the hell is wrong with you?
For what it is worth, I won't be paying $100 for Sync Ultra either. But I'm not going around accusing a dev of hiring paid actors to promote his app that already has multiple posts on the front page of the fediverse.
You are not just "being critical" you're accusing them of being malicious and I am calling you out on that specifically.
The version of the 0.0.7 release seems messed up. Obtainium doesn't seem to successfully update and when I install the 0.0.7 apk manually, inside the app it still shows 0.0.6.
I can't decide. I have used Infinity for years on Reddit. Been using connect and liftoff for Lemmy.

Does "IzzyOnDroid" do similar vetting, or is it just grabbing whatever from upstream and distributing it without human intervention?
Weird! Well, I technically use Droidify so maybe that's the reason? Either way, I also recommend Droidify to F-Droid because of security issues so try Droidify and then also try Liftoff if you'd like.
I installed obtainium and added the codeberg url as a new app. I clicked on allowing pre-releases, and allowed obtainium to install apps. It sees there's an upgrade (0.0.7) as I'm currently on 0.0.6. however, when I click to update, it doesn't do anything, keeps showing the same version.
Hey. Seemingly the app won't let me log into an instance I've tried lemme.ee, sh.itjust.works, and lemmy.zip. Any ideas?
Editing to add that this app looks really nice! I think my only complaint is that collapsed comments are bright green, unless I'm missing the option to change that
Edit: I am dumb and did not think to scroll further lol oops
Edit: I successfully logged in using username rather than password. That said, the app crashes every time I try to view my profile
I did check the space. It just didn't seem to want to let me log in via email but like I said, username worked fine!
As to the crashing I hadn't tried from not the bottom navigation bar, so thank you for that. I was mostly just documenting the issue in case other people et encountered it
Thank you. Voyager is pretty and Liftoff has a neat interface, but Infinity for Lemmy makes me feel like Reddit ca. a couple of years ago, before it went South.

The original used to be my favourite reddit client, so I'm really happy to see there's a semi-fuctional lemmy fork.
So this means another lemmy app for me to install. I'm still switching between apps

Yep, that's the reason why infinity still works. Seems like they gave the devs who want to continue some time to figure it out.
dimspace@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y
It's been very quiet on that front
A lot of people (myself included) are using a modded version of Infinity that allows you to put in your own API key.
LFR@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 3y
You don't even need to do that, still works without doing anything.

Such a great app. I used Infinity before so I'm glad someone made a Lemmy version
Veritas@lemmy.ml · 6 pts · 3y
Am I the only one who got here looking who that really active dev was?
SnowBunting@lemmy.ml · 5 pts · 3y
Nice. Can't wait to get it through the play store.
newIdentity@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 3y
Just sideload. Else the dev has to pay like $100 a year
LettucePie@mastodon.xyz · 1 pts · 3y
@newIdentity @SnowBunting I thought $100 annual was Apple? Last I saw my play developer account was a one time of $20 or 30
newIdentity@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 3y
Oh. Yeah that might be true. I Avent actually looked that up
skymtf@pricefield.org · 5 pts · 3y
I love this! Keep up the good work
only0218@sh.itjust.works · 5 pts · 3y
I already love it

Infinity app is great!

Hm, I can't see it in Play store. I'm in EU.

Go to releases on codeberg
TopHat@compuverse.uk · 3 pts · 3y
Try Obtainium, helps if an app isn't on F-Droid or Google Play Store.
kambusha@feddit.ch · 1 pts · 3y
I installed obtainium and added the codeberg url as a new app. I clicked on allowing pre-releases, and allowed obtainium to install apps. It sees there's an upgrade (0.0.7) as I'm currently on 0.0.6. however, when I click to update, it doesn't do anything, keeps showing the same version.
Any tips on what I could be doing wrong?
TopHat@compuverse.uk · 1 pts · 3y
I used to have this issue, but 0.0.8 is now out. Obtanium pulls in that release just fine!
domesticstreetcat@feddit.ch · 4 pts · 3y
This is perfect. My absolute favorite app for Reddit. I'm 100 percent Lemmy now.
droidpenguin@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 3y
Yay! My first comment from Infinity! Been using Jerboa so far but great to have multiple options!
Corr@lemm.ee · 4 pts · 3y
That said, the app crashes every time I try to view my profile
newIdentity@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 3y
Make sure you didn't add a space at the end
Also the app only crashes when you try to view your profile from the bottom navigation bar. It works fine if you want to view it from the sidebar
Yes it's a little buggy for now, but it's still in development
Corr@lemm.ee · 2 pts · 3y
I did check the space. It just didn't seem to want to let me log in via email but like I said, username worked fine! As to the crashing I hadn't tried from not the bottom navigation bar, so thank you for that. I was mostly just documenting the issue in case other people et encountered it
tired_n_bored@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y
You can change that color in the settings.
Corr@lemm.ee · 2 pts · 3y
Yeah I did find that. Thanks!
tired_n_bored@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3y
No problem :)

Best Lemmy App so far. Thanks a lot!
makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml · -1 pts · 3y
I'm devastated. It's been filled with ads. They took the original devs work, forked it, then filled out with damn ads.
NathanUp@lemmy.ml · 1 pts · 3y
?? I am using it right now and haven't seen a single ad?
sxan@midwest.social · 1 pts · 3y
Are you pulling it from f-droid? I haven't seen any ads.
makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml · 1 pts · 3y
It's not on fdroid any more is it? The lemmy version?
sxan@midwest.social · 1 pts · 3y
Dunno. It was beta when I originally downloaded it, but I believe I've gotten an update since then. I'd assumed it came through f-droid.
I just checked, and it's still there. v0.0.8, released 2023-08-08.

Nice. I really, really like the gallery view.
oldfart@lemm.ee · 3 pts · 3y
It is so incredibly great! And, coming from Jeroba, I don't have to be afraid of pressing backspace any more!
kratoz29@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y
Is there any way to make the font a little bolder without changing to a bold font?
I feel it forces my eyes a lot to read them with that soft tone or whatever is called.
sxan@midwest.social · 2 pts · 3y
Dear Dev,
Thank you. Voyager is pretty and Liftoff has a neat interface, but Infinity for Lemmy makes me feel like Reddit ca. a couple of years ago, before it went South.
Nice job.

I had no idea Sync cost this much.

So let's donate to free apps as well to support the development.
