Day 9 of my exercises completed. I actually did them this morning but haven't had a chance to post about it until now. Normally I'd drop the kids off at school and write it on the bus on the way to work, but this morning I had the music bug and just wanted to flood my brain with loud hard rock music before I got there.
Still not drinking. I'm enjoying being a boring old fart and coming home after listening to heavy metal on the bus and having a cup of tea. However, today's a special day.. it's "Fat Arse Friday" in my house, a recent tradition where we get door dash and eat brownies and ice-cream and naughty stuff on Friday when I come home. It's our cheat/treat day and we look forward to it! So I'm off to have some Streets Blue Ribbon Vanilla icecream with salted chocolate caramel brownie, probably followed at some point by ๐ & ๐. So happy we have literally nothing planned for the weekend. Just need to run a few quick errands tomorrow morning, but that's it. I'm going full gremlin mode.

Oh no! That sounds horrific! Iโve never woken up to one thankfully. But when I was in my late teens/early 20s Iโd sometimes wake up with amnesia. Not know who I was or where I was for a good 5 minutes and that was scary enough.
Yesterday I posted my spag 'n' ease dinner so thought I'd share this story wif yous. Spaghetti bolognese is my husband's favourite of all time. If I swap the spaghetti for another pasta, there's disappointment.
So one day I made the bolognese and I burnt the fucker. I was so angry with myself. Told him that I was sorry and promised him I'd make another one the next day. He's like "nah I'll still eat it". I explained that it's horrible, unedible, burnt throughout. I left it on the stove to deal with it in the morning.
I woke up and looked in the pot and it's gone. Like all gone. So I questioned him when he got home. He told me that he had taken it, added a shitload of chilli paste to it and that it was delicious. It had sat overnight and he ate it cold. I had no words.
Haha. How else can people become amateur plumbers/electricians/dIYers/doctors/experts without it? Why read a book when someone can demonstrate it for you.
The Age newspaper comes with the Good Food supplement on a Tuesday. This week they had an article on different types of yoghurt and Mrs_Owl was horrified to learn that all this time (for years) she thought she'd been buying Greek yoghurt, but instead it's Greek-style which is much more heavily processed and padded out with thickeners and gums.
Had the rare second coffee today, in the afternoon. I rebelled and took a break to speak to Industry Person earlier which should've recharged and boosted me but at this point it's even harder to go back to what I've been doing. Want. Out.
Time to brave the wind and walk Mr Woof. I just need to figure out what to wear for 16 degrees but feels like 12. Maybe a light jumper.
Edit: Made it back home without blowing away. The light jumper was a pretty good choice, a touch too warm when out of the wind, but that didn't happen much. We also got a bonus chat with a neighbour reminising about all the changes in the neighbourhood.
The wind was enough that the cat, when offered supervised outdoor time on four separate occasions (as cats often require), came right back in each time within 30 seconds.
My brain is slowly turning to mush through listening to too much hold music.
Edit: Actually, my brain may have started as mush. I have spent hours today trying to sort out a problem, and just worked out it's my own mistake and it was all a complete waste of time.
Breathe in, breathe out, bundle it up
Hold it for one moment,
Then let it all out
Take a second or a minute, take a whole day
Breathe it in, breathe it out, send it away
Thank god itโs the weekend, it was a long day at work, particularly since it was supposed to be my day off. I hope we at least see a little sunshine โ๏ธ sometime during the weekend.
Gah. When I went outside to close the gates just now the wind had blown over the bin and the bag of rubbish, and in the dim light it looked like someone had collapsed on the path.
Gave me a moment, I can tell you.
I kind of had part 1 of my weekend yesterday and this morning. Now that I've mostly recharged and got a second wind of energy I'll be working late into the night at my own pace. I can see and think clearly now that I know I won't get any more emails until Monday...
Gonna make a simple pasta with onion, garlic, Sirena tuna and broccoli and chuck in some chipotle in adobo sauce for something out of left field. Then on to the next stage of compiling all this stuff together.
::: spoiler e: dinner - I forget how spicy these chipotles are ๐ฅต
:::
Work finished, beer opened, tunes going, got a second wave of energy going. Won't last long though, plan for tonight is crashing on the couch with some trash TV.
Yay weekend! Guitar, video games and cat snuggles for the evening. Then out to a bar crawl tomorrow night! I'm too old for a bar crawl but fuck it why not?
In the book about Africa I'm reading Schweitzer describes how crops can't be planted there as the too warm seasons make the plants grow so fast the wheat seeds don't fatten and potatoes don't grow tubers. They need time to develop. Will that happen here?
I took the seasons for granted. I think everyone did. ๐
A lot of things collapse when the weather changes. Things like apples need a period of cold weather over winter. Often multiple things are synchronised, like the flowering and growth of particular plants and insects and animals that are part of cycle of polination, or predators that eat pests etc. Even very small changes in climate can have major effects on the way everything works together.
A lot of plants literally require a cold period to fruit (berries, etc). Constantly warm weather makes a lot of plants lose their shit, it's like foregoing sleep. You think you're good at first, then the wheels come off.
Sky sort of pretty, but I don't like the forecast. Laundry might have to be Sunday unless I run out of socks.
In other news, I have been informed that my bike is now ready to pick up from bicycle hospital. It sprang a leak in the back wheel on Wednesday which has now been fixed. For the princely sum of $40 or thereabouts. Love livin' in the inner north.
I desperately need to lose weight and get into healthier habits. Being overweight is really bad for my sciatica and in 10 years I'll start to get old. I can't imagine what sciatica would be like then, it would not be good. ๐ญ
That's very wise of you. I shall cease the butter comments and will cheer you on instead. Please take my sincere apologies. I will strive to do butter I mean better in the future :)
If you had $5000 to spend on yourself what would you spend it on? Not including bills nor can you give it away. Totally self indulgent. I'd go straight to the book shop, then the pub and then uber home with my books.
Years ago I did a huge trip from Melbourne to the tip top of Cape York, I'd add the 5k to my savings and do the whole trip over again. This time I'd stay longer in Cooktown, a town which I fell in love with on my trip.
It sounds good in theory, but it's not even real money and I'm paralysed with indecision about how to spend it I've already had second, third, and fourth thoughts ๐คฃ
It's a tough call. We need a new fridge; the one I've got now is the same fridge we had before the kids came along (12 years ago!) and it's a good size for 2 people only. A blender would be nice instead of using the Nutribullet for everything. Also a proper mixer/beater. I'm long overdue for some new saucepans. I actually really need new couches for the lounge room as the old ones are so tatty looking and worn out, they're a disgrace ๐
Little bit at a time mate. I still have my second hand table that I've had for 25 years. My couches are 18 years old. Due for new ones too. I don't know what else to say other than I hope things get better for you.
Yeah I got a bit excited for a minute there! Just about all of my furniture is second hand or found on hard rubbish and spruced up a bit, and tbh I don't mind it too much. There's a very particular satisfaction to be had from furnishing your abode for bugger all money. New couches would be great for a change, but one advantage is not going mental at the kids for spilling something because the furniture is worn to start with. I can think about it more when they get older. May we both one day have new couches! Raises glass gesture
I would get someone in to do housework for 3 days a week for 4 weeks. Then with the rest of the money pay for 2x driving lessons and some tafe courses. Will study and read on the 3 days off . The house will be pretty clean and tidy for months so work will be reduced and I'll be worry free . Can read and study .
Sauron would've seen them coming and his wraiths + his army would've messed those eagles up. They only flew there after those were all taken care of. They needed to be sneaky burglers.
I enjoyed reading it and the silmarillion, the movies were good too but I agree with others. There's holes in the story and the two towers is kinda boring.
Plans for dashing out early for a grocery run have been derailed by notification that pakidge is arriving today and I have to sign for it.
If I'm careful I can make the milk and mineral water last until tomorrow. ๐ค
Heading to the office today as a favour for a colleague who needs me to do some testing. Saves him coming in from way out wherever he lives and I'm just a tram ride up Collins St from work. I think this might be the first Friday I've been in the office since March 2020...
::: spoiler Meanwhile.. my calendar for the day (image):
:::
Housemate is home late so I said I'd do kitty medicine. Bad idea that was, the little bugger screamed like a banshee before bitting my thumb, and for all that we only managed one pill.
Check with vet just in case, but you can totally soak thyroid meds and antibiotics in a little sour cream or churo or dine paste and the cat will maul you for the spoon.
Eagerly waiting for it to tick past noon so I can have lunch. Slightly rough morning where my laptop shat itself 5 mins into a one on one meet and greet and now asked to be postponed. Need a bit of comfort.
I haven't gotten uber eats at work, but considering the shit I'm dealing with for this stolen package I just... I need a burrito.
Seriously, Casetify customer service sucks. They're like "you need to contact the courier service to get confirmation it was lost" and it's like "I know it was stolen because the package ISN'T THERE!" Like I'm going in circles and I know the courier is gonna say "we delivered it so...".
My case/screen protector cost not even $10 and I had to sign for it but my $70 phone case doesn't need to be signed for. Ugh.
Now that no one is home most days, I'm just gonna have to get packages delivered at work.
Ugh, that sucks. We've had a few things stolen before (leaving something out the front of a large apartment, within a few meters of the footpath on a busy highway, is not a safe place) so I always get packages delivered to work now. When I get packages here it's like a little present to get me through the work day!
Haha love it. Yeah our little area isn't busy and I have this giant pillar but things are still noticeable there. I really want one of those mailboxes that you can put packages in. It'd be so cool.
Sky nasty, but according to windy.com it looks like Melbourne will miss the worst of the rain. The Mornington Peninsula is copping it though. And the central highlands.
Checking my transactions and the highlight is a $6.10 coffee with a 6 cent surcharge that was not announced or written anywhere at the register. Well that is above my coffee cost tolerance threshold to start with and the unannounced surcharge tipped me over the edge so they will not be seeing me again.
Nearly finished the work for the day, just have a few dishes to put away and might tidy and dust a bookshelf, then everything on my list and more is done
Then it's do some reading, watch some old movies, do some emails. ๐
Any suggestions on where to get Korean Fish Cakes for Tteokbokki?
Really keen to try it, but because of dietary things Im gonna have to make it myself.
Most Korean grocers will stock this. Itโs usually in the frozen section. If youโre in the CBD or close to Carlton, Iโd recommend checking out KT Mart.
There is an impossible amount of new TV shows out at the moment. Strange new worlds, heartstopper, Futurama, Witcher, secret invasion, twisted metal and Ahsoka plus only murders in the building dropping soon. Mental. Currently stuck hate watching Witcher and secret invasion just to get them out of the way. Lower decks must be soon too right?
"Then---yes, there can be no mistake about it!---from the branch of a palm there hang and swing---two monkey tails!! Now the owners of the tails are visible. We are really in Africa! "
This is a wonderful book so far. ๐ ( edge of the primeval forest)

Just had to give some 'constructive feedback' to a team member about their recent performance and what they need to do to improve.
It had to be formal and diplomatic, not exactly my favourite approach but so be it.
Our internal policy is very much tailored in a way as to never come off negative and always show support.
It's very difficult when dealing with an absolute moron.

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 3y
Accepting bribes is a good way to get fired too. Sadly, this person is too dumb to do any of that, so we're stuck with them.
I'm considering a polite bullying strategy that makes them miserable so they leave, but don't have the heart to do that.

We also got a bonus chat with a neighbour reminising about all the changes in the neighbourhood.
just_kitten@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 3y

I think this was what @bottomracer was talking about yesterday. Winter in South America
Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 3y
In the book about Africa I'm reading Schweitzer describes how crops can't be planted there as the too warm seasons make the plants grow so fast the wheat seeds don't fatten and potatoes don't grow tubers. They need time to develop. Will that happen here?
I took the seasons for granted. I think everyone did. ๐
RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 3y
A lot of things collapse when the weather changes. Things like apples need a period of cold weather over winter. Often multiple things are synchronised, like the flowering and growth of particular plants and insects and animals that are part of cycle of polination, or predators that eat pests etc. Even very small changes in climate can have major effects on the way everything works together.
Taleya@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 3y
A lot of plants literally require a cold period to fruit (berries, etc). Constantly warm weather makes a lot of plants lose their shit, it's like foregoing sleep. You think you're good at first, then the wheels come off.

A blender would be nice instead of using the Nutribullet for everything. Also a proper mixer/beater. I'm long overdue for some new saucepans. Yeah I got a bit excited for a minute there! Just about all of my furniture is second hand or found on hard rubbish and spruced up a bit, and tbh I don't mind it too much. New couches would be great for a change, but one advantage is not going mental at the kids for spilling something because the furniture is worn to start with. Sky nasty, but according to windy.com it looks like Melbourne will miss the worst of the rain. The Mornington Peninsula is copping it though. And the central highlands.
RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 3y
I don't know about rain, but out east it's alarmingly windy. Hiding inside is definitely on the cards for the rest of the day.

Apparently yes. Asparagus can trigger flatulence as well as stinky pee.

Checking my transactions and the highlight is a $6.10 coffee with a 6 cent surcharge that was not announced or written anywhere at the register. Well that is above my coffee cost tolerance threshold to start with and the unannounced surcharge tipped me over the edge so they will not be seeing me again.

Pakidge arrived - postie literally knocked on the screen door, dropped it and ran. Ah well.
Now off to brave Aldi.

Any suggestions on where to get Korean Fish Cakes for Tteokbokki? Really keen to try it, but because of dietary things Im gonna have to make it myself.
goodviking@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 3y
Most Korean grocers will stock this. Itโs usually in the frozen section. If youโre in the CBD or close to Carlton, Iโd recommend checking out KT Mart.

There is an impossible amount of new TV shows out at the moment. Strange new worlds, heartstopper, Futurama, Witcher, secret invasion, twisted metal and Ahsoka plus only murders in the building dropping soon. Mental. Currently stuck hate watching Witcher and secret invasion just to get them out of the way. Lower decks must be soon too right?
