I'm holding out for Premium Lite Pro.

Now with ads!

VolumetricShitCompressor@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 12 pts · 1y

Nah, you better wait. I've heard that Youtube 2 is almost out.

timroerstroem@feddit.dk · 9 pts · 1y

I think that's called grayjay.

cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca · 29 pts · 1y (1 reply)

So a way to remove ads at the cost of $ and better tracking. Instead, I'll stick with piped, greyjay, ublock, etc and make it harder to track me and save the $.

Fuck Google.

sugar_in_your_tea@sh.itjust.works · 12 pts · 1y

I have no problem paying, just let me use my app of choice, without ads, and don't track me. If YouTube did that, I'd be a paying customer instead of a leech. I pay for Nebula and watch on Grayjay, so I do put my money where my mouth is.

Still doesn't allow background playback though, so it's useless to me

Slaxis@discuss.tchncs.de · 15 pts · 1y (3 replies)

And that’s why I sideload a modified YouTube that includes ad blockers, sponsor segment skipping and background playback, among other things.

overload@sopuli.xyz · 9 pts · 1y (2 replies)

I won't pay for YouTube almost solely because Revanced is such a better experience than YT could be. They cannot bundle in Sponsor block without an outrage.

TheGalacticVoid@lemm.ee · 1 pts · 1y (1 reply)

I don't disagree, but Premium does let you skip over frequently skipped sections.

overload@sopuli.xyz · 2 pts · 1y

Oh I didn't know that. That admittedly changes things somewhat. Google still makes enough money from me though.

AstralPath@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 1y

Try Grayjay. It supports background playback.

I've always wondered why Google doesn't include a YouTube subscription with YouTube TV. They charge enough for it already...

Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 15 pts · 1y

Because why make less money when you can make more money

Ulrich@feddit.org · 10 pts · 1y

Because you haven't approached the situation with the mindset of a careless greedy fuck.

Sturgist@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 1y

Why would the actively make search worse to try and drive engagement time?

muntedcrocodile@lemm.ee · 8 pts · 1y

Is that like PipePipe for idiots?

Bali@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 1y

I feel the battle will get harder for extractor like NewPipe. I really hope NewPipe will always work despite Google constantly changing their YouTube code.

Yingwu@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 4 pts · 1y

Didn't they already have this before but removed it? At least in my country a "lite"-variant was available but they removed it like last year.

TheFeatureCreature@lemmy.ca · 3 pts · 1y

They've needed this for a long time.

vhstape@lemmy.sdf.org · 3 pts · 1y

That’s quite the oxymoron
