Sony has been this way forever. Back in the 90s all their discmans used proprietary power and audio connectors. In the 2000s they did memory sticks when everyone else was using sd cards.

And it was just an asshole form factor, a micro SD - memory stick adapter worked wonders on my psp

Don't forget the healthy markup! It's not a proprietary Sony storage device if they don't charge twice as much for a tenth the space.
