I may be spitballing here, but it seems that neoliberals can't imagine an anti-left campaign could be run by anything but a conservative (read: republican) entity. That neoliberalism is actually conservative doesn't cross their minds (why would it? the mere existence of leftism is coopted or erased in American media). That the NYT would be part of that apparatus hasn't crossed enough people's minds, until now. Their façade is cracking.
the new york times did a special on fentynal kitches what was proved to be false; they manufacture consent just like fox new does and have no credibility to blow.
Again and again, when the Times attempts its false balance — trying to make Republicans sound less unhinged than they actually are — it results in bad journalism. It is the same problem social media platforms have encountered in moderation: removing misinformation and deplatforming bad actors means removing and deplatforming more Republicans. Eventually, using the excuse of “fairness,” social media companies gave up.
The Verge also cites this Politico article on how the right actively worked to discredit Claudine Gay. From Politico:
When you put those three elements together — narrative, financial and political pressure — and you squeeze hard enough, you see the results that we got today, which was the resignation of America’s most powerful academic leader.
Lordy, how I wish truth and logic was sufficient to fight lies and crazy.
Jacobin: Why the Twitter Files Are in Fact a Big DealOn the Left, there’s been a temptation to dismiss the revelations about Twitter’s internal censorship system that have emerged from the so-called Twitter Files project. But that would be a mistake: the news is important and the details are alarming.

Why does The Verge think the NYT is being gamed? The NYT is in on the game. This isn’t an issue of competency. The owners know what they’re doing.

It seems we are looking at a near systemic collapse of truth-telling in classic media.
That the NYT is carrying water for a russian asset in the white house says more than what they are printing specifically at any given moment.
