Extending the vote to here since well it is Linux. I probably should have posted here first but oh well. Let me know which genre of Tux game you would want made first.

Definitely keep it simple for the first game. A Smash like was recommended in the other thread. I think that's a fantastic idea. Start with a small roster of two characters and one stage and improve from there.

That's a pretty good beginner project. More characters, more stages, and more gimmiks leaves plenty of room grow, but still something to be proud of early.

To reduce redundancy here are some projects already being made (I'll add links in a bit they are on Lemmy if you search Tux. Except Conker's Dev I know them) but if you still want to make a project in those genres then be my guest:

  • 3 people are working on a Tux Smash-like

  • SuperTuxKart Team is making their next iteration of the game to be overhauled (They have a name for it but forgot what it was called)

  • Know a developer working on a Tux Conker-like game

For a couple personal suggestions of games that people would love. It will be cool if we get any of these. I'll put in my vote as well:

  • A New Tux 2D Platformer Game
  • A Farming Game like Stardew Valley
  • A 3D Platformer Game with support for up to 8 players with local couch co-op and online co-op (With a Mario Maker to make it complete)
  • A Brand New Tux Party Game
  • A 4X Grand Strategy Civilization Game
  • A Turn-Based Final Fantasy-like Game
  • A Horror Game
  • An RTS Game

Godot, Open Source, GNU GPL 2.0 and/or 3.0 license, & Fully Moddable will futureproof the game
