I think Age of Empires was actually a great introduction to history for a lot of kids.

I can 100% confirm that, despite going on to earn a history degree, when I think of Joan of Arc, William Wallace, Genghis Khan, or Saladin, I think of the campaigns from AoE2

I'm interested if someone got any version of it (preferably older ones) work on Linux. I failed at it. The game is fire and I miss it ;-c

arent all aoe games on proton db gold or higher?

altkey@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 5 pts · 1y (3 replies)

I specified older versions as I want my original CD image to work because it has nice translation, local multiplayer, probably lower energy consumption and is free for me.

I see DE keys for Steam for $8, but I'd need a bunch of them if I'd ever want to have a lan party.

Dudewitbow@lemmy.zip · 4 pts · 1y (1 reply)

would that not just require you to go through the voobly process for the original version of aoe2? https://reddit.com/r/aoe2/comments/2zyogr/how_to_playing_aoe_ii_on_voobly_on_linux_with_wine/

its basically what aoe2 users did before DE, as aoe2hd was a bad modernized port.

Ty, I'd give it a try.

It works great through proton. I just purchased the Difinitive Edition on steam a couple days ago.

I wish I can launch the OG one for many reasons, but I couldn't manage to make it work.

Does DE support local MP, connecting by IP?

That’s me with bohemian culture after playing Kingdom Come Deliverance.

Praise God! Henry's come to see us!

I haven't played KCD2 yet, but I hope Henry becomes a Hussite radical.

teft@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Jan Hus is stirring up trouble but Henry goes to Kuttenberg in KCD2, not Prague. Hus and the Hussites are mentioned a few times in passing.

ChairmanMeow@programming.dev · 4 pts · 1y

Kuttenberg sounds really funny in Dutch, it basically translates to "Cunts Mountain".
