What makes you happy

I just want to be more positive in my life as I see the world growing number of challenges as I like to say. Loving strangers is helping me out and preaching class solidarity.

When I poop before I have to leave the house in the morning. I’m free.

reagansrottencorpse@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 1y

Hey I'm doing that right now

helix@feddit.org · 1 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Poop at work, get paid!

venusaur@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 1y

I’d much rather poop at home.

Music, films, and video games. Probably just art in general. Also having friends but I haven't had any irl ones in a while.

Edit: I got P.T. running on a hacked PS4 and that made me real happy. Especially because I didn't know what I was doing.

thevoidzero@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 1y (2 replies)

For me it's making something. Mostly coding a new feature on my personal project. Making a new map/plot.

Sometimes just winning a videogame match, or getting that in game achievement.

helix@feddit.org · 1 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Which games?

thevoidzero@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y

I don't do actual video game with steam or ps5 and such, so I don't know if you're into it.

Me and my wife play this game called bomb squad, it's one of a very few games that run natively on linux (without steam and such), is free to install/play and works with game controllers.

Teaching something to someone and seeing them succeed at that after.

Such a great feeling!

My husband, chi tea latte, rainy fall weather, being home, in bed under the blankets.

My dog. He's such a doofus but he's beautiful and very funny, always getting distracted by bugs or plant seeds floating about.

I'll just be happy if my neck quits hurting so I can lay down and get some proper sleep tonight ☹️

Cattail@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1y (3 replies)

Id get some bengay or athletes creem, idk. Like it should numb you enough

over_clox@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 1y (2 replies)

Actually, thank you!

The sore area is very closely related to an old slipped disc and pinched nerve injury, but isn't quite that bad again yet. You just reminded me that we have some muscle rub cream in the bathroom, and the instant I read your comment, I just went to apply some.

I just hope it doesn't go back to being a pinched nerve, but muscle rub cream surely can't hurt!

Thank you again fellow Lemming 👍

Cattail@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Good to hear I helped. See something say something. Hopefully it works. I had a neck cramp that kept me in bed

over_clox@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y

It is actually helping a bit, but knowing the old injury, I still need to restrict my neck motion for a while, when I otherwise want to sleep ☹️

I think I'll be good, as long as I don't bend my neck in any weird ways tonight. That sucks though, as I'd just as soon be asleep right now, but I tend to toss and turn in my sleep, not good for my neck at the moment.

But your advice was solid, even if it only helped like 10%, the muscle rub cream indeed has helped 👍

helix@feddit.org · 2 pts · 1y (2 replies)

Sitting yoga and going on a walk, followed by muscle relaxation and a shower usually helps me best.

If nothing else works, Ibuprofen stops inflammation and Tizanidine helps you relax the muscles without having bad side effects like Benzodiazepine.

over_clox@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Thank you kindly for the advice 👍

Last night kinda sucked like that, but I was able to relieve the pain eventually with a combination of the other posted suggestion, generic muscle rub (basically off-brand Ben Gay), a BC powder, some beer, and restricting my neck motion for a while.

Then I rearranged my pillow to be rolled up very tight to sit under my neck while I finally got some sleep around 5:30am..

I'm just glad it didn't settle into a long term pinched nerve again.

Noice! Happy something worked. Seems you have a whole arsenal of remedies now.

a girl I loved and I admired, loved me back.

vortexal@lemmy.ml · 3 pts · 1y

There are a lot of things that make me happy to at least some degree. Just going in order of what I remember, there is, finding uses for older pieces of technology, listening to music that is upbeat and "energetic" (if that's the right word to use), playing games with good gameplay and stories (even if they can get depressing sometimes), and while it's been a while since I've last watching one, watching Anime can also make me happy. There are also some other things but I've either forgotten them or I just don't feel like mentioning them.

Hanging out with my partner, working out, reading (Marxist-Leninist theory as well as general fiction like sci-fi), gaming, making espresso, and running TTRPGs.

reagansrottencorpse@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Have you read the culture series? I just found out about it. It's post scarcity society, might be up your alley!

Cowbee@lemmy.ml · 1 pts · 1y

Haven't heard of it, thanks for the rec! I'll check it out!

There's also something called anhedonia, which is when it's temporary.

Did you ever have fun? Were you ever happy for a few moments at least? What did you do?

toomanypancakes@piefed.world · 2 pts · 1y

Been trying to figure that out for decades, but I have found that music, weed, and cuddles does wonders

monovergent@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Building gadgets, modding electronics, and documenting it all so other people can try it out too. In a way, I'd like it to be my job, but my ideas aren't that profitable and I'm sure selling off my hobby to capitalism would suck the fun out of it.

Lots of the usual stuff, but speaking of class, when I get unexpectedly positive reactions for outreach. When handing out fliers at a train station, I'd often see someone instinctually ignore us for handing out stuff, but when I announce the reason (e.g. protesting a local weapons factory supplying the ongoing genocide, or for my union organizing to fight issues affecting our workers) some people double back and grab one, or even thank us for volunteering. It's heartwarming and validating. Far more people showing interest or support than the one or two grumpy reactionaries.

@Cattail@lemmy.world !asklemmy@lemmy.ml

I don't do happy things. What I do are things that distract me from myself and from my non-consented existence (and I say this outside any depressed mood at the moment, it's just how I see existence).

For example: I tinker with math, code, ciphers and related ideas. Sometimes I write some things, sometimes I draw. I often seek knowledge and information, or I test myself in order to check if I still got a specific knowledge. Sometimes I do rituals, trying to summon and/or enter a state of gnosis (or perhaps getting to finally return to my primordial state of non-existence again). If nothing is enjoyable at the moment, I just put myself into sleeping (it's the closest to non-existence).

I do whatever it comes to mind that I should do, and when I do, I become highly focused in doing it, I become obsessed with it. Sometimes I laugh or I smile out of any unexpectedness while I'm doing it. But it's far from "making me happy". Perhaps the last time I was "happy" was during my childhood, when the babyborn me was too naïve to understand existence.

Happiness is just an emergent property from whatever action/situation is distracting enough to obfuscate any remembrance of past and/or ongoing and/or future issues. Getting to get to the emergent, temporary state of happiness doesn't mean that the world became more colorful and butterflies began to shine under a glorious rainbow, it's just another tiny local maxima on a vast cosmic minima.
