Couple photos while we wait for Seagoon:

SpinMeAround@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y

What a day! ๐Ÿ˜

Bottom_racer@aussie.zone · 12 pts · 1y

My new fave hobby is taking the weed burner thing to ivy.

It gives a very satisfying crackle pop sound.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 10 pts · 1y (3 replies)

getting ready for a long walk down the beach/coast , 4k return, some of it is rough, the tide very low but rising , I don't care if sometimes I have to walk in the water a little because there is no sand

this is good for old people like me, the uneven way is meant to strengthen muscles in our feet and help us maintain balance

will take photos and hope I find some good shells and coral

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 8 pts · 1y

That sounds lovely.

I shall have to tell Mr Woof about the benefits of uneven ground next time he looks at me like I'm crazy for wanting to cut across an open lot instead of sticking to concrete paths. Telling him the route takes us closer to cows doesn't seem to be a winning argument with him.

Force_majeure123@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y

Excited for photos ๐Ÿฟ

SpinMeAround@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

Just got back from my own beach walk, but I did it the easy way (boardwalk). Yours sounds lovely, it's bloody stunning out today!

StudChud@aussie.zone · 10 pts · 1y (9 replies)

Fell asleep at 11pm, wide awake at 3am.

Laughing at that mushroom case subreddit, everyone is losing their minds about how what happened to Simon wasn't allowed to be presented as evidence in this case. Um, maybe because there's no solid proof she poisoned Simon those times; I have no doubt she did, but they cannot prove it, so inadmissable as evidence.

Good thing the jury found her guilty anyway, but this has highlighted how little the public knows about criminal case proceedings, good fkn lord ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ

And I got downvoted for telling someone they were gross for purposefully driving by Erin's house. It's not a tourist destination! Give it a few years after sentencing at least! Other people live on that street FFS.

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Purposely driving past her house is pathetic, terminally online behaviour.

So fucking glad I deleted my reddit account.

StudChud@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y

Yeah I need to delete, like I should have done so years ago. Not good for my head.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y (2 replies)

Thatโ€™s so gross and weird to do. I even feel a little bit bad sometimes even commenting on the situation because itโ€™s not a spectacle, itโ€™s peopleโ€™s lives and theyโ€™re still probably shocked and grieving.

Imagine the reality of things right now for the kids. Donโ€™t drive by stalk a devastated family bro.

Eagle@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y

They are absolutely devastated and grieving still.

StudChud@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y

It's so gross! I think I also got a little triggered, because it reminded me of the shit my mum used to do when I was a teen:

::: spoiler smol trauma She really believed she was psychic, and would drive around at all hours of the night trying to "find" Bung Siriboon, one hand on the wheel and the other tracing words on her thigh. She'd drive like a fucking idiot too, because she wasn't paying full attention, so I'd go with her because I was afraid she'd get into a crash and die and I wouldn't know. :::

SpinMeAround@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y (2 replies)

Wrote a whole rant, but backtracked it. But yup, that sub needs a new hobby.

StudChud@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Deleted my 10yr old Reddit account.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (2 replies)

I need to do that at some point. Just having trouble letting go. I wonder if thereโ€™s a way to back up comments.

StudChud@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (1 reply)

I didn't save any comments lol just deleted the account. It was hard to let go, but I just had enough of the bad news, sexism, and racism; no comment I made ever changed anyone's mind about their biases. Plus, it means my ex can't see what I'm up to anymore lol, I have the screenshots of the message they sent me a year or two back, so I can throw that in their face again if I need to, but it is very freeing.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

Thereโ€™s so much history for me. But yeah itโ€™s not good to have too much personal info out there with creepy crawly people.

Iโ€™ll add checking re backups to the pile of tech/account related admin I need to do ๐Ÿ˜ž

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (6 replies)

I did the same when I came here. Reddit is the epitome of the peanut gallery. An endless, fully stocked peanut gallery.

StudChud@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (5 replies)

It's just disgusting. If it isn't incel r--ards pining for a mummy bang maid therapist, it's endless racism and sexism. It's literally the cesspool of the internet at this point (not counting 4chan).

Edit: oh and stupid AI posts and pictures ๐Ÿคฎ

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (4 replies)

it's full of stupid kids and bots but it's not the cesspit

that's reserved for facebook , insta, bluesky and trump follwers

StudChud@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (3 replies)

It is a cesspool. The incels, the women who hate all men, tradmen and tradwomen, the AI bots and posts, the endless fucking arguments about whether genocide in Gaza is justified, the endless shit about Trump, the Russian bots, whether queer people are actual people.

Even the animal subreddits are rife with animal abuse - people not doing their research before getting a pet, the endless questions about whether to take their obviously sick/injured pet to the vet, the shitty excuses they have for keeping arthropods in shitty enclosures.

And the subreddits that are just "watch people die" rebranded.

Give me one good post on that site, and I'll show you 1000 more that are just fucking awful.

I do visit occasionally, but rarely. It tends to make me sad for the house I had to sell.

I inherited my mum's house (the house I grew up in) but her sons from her first marriage contested the Will. I didn't have the money to either fight it or buy them out, so I had to sell the place to give them their cut and move out whilst heavily pregnant with Eldest. (I was also worried about putting myself under that kind of stress while pregnant).

Yeah, colesworth tried it for a bit. Croxton Roosters chooks have a soy sauce based glaze that's pretty similar I understand. I like the Croxton Roosters version quite a lot so maybe vegemite chicken wasn't so bad. I didn't try it though.

slurrytub adapter for rock cleaning

The wot with the who now?

Taleya@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

bought a slurrytub, made a 10mm cage to fit inside it, now I can throw 20mm rocks in, clean them, slurry tub filters out the dirt and the water gets reused to clean more rocks. Very economical.

Why doesn't Victoria have .vic TLD, every LGA could have stonnington.vic, campaspe.vic, parliament.vic

Nobody's claimed it yet and it's only a matter of time.

On that note. .melbourne? why not something normal like .melb, better yet, why not have the whole state use .vic.

Nope. Nobody "has it all together". As per SituationCake, you deal with the most urgent dumpster first. Then other shit as it happens. Helps to have a rough idea of routine and priorities - which can be varied in accordance with circumstances. There is no law that states that THOU SHALT HAVE AN IMMACULATE HOME AT ALL TIMES OF EVERY DAY OR I WILL SMITE YOU. And nobody ever put "I was a perfect housekeeper" on their gravestone. Kids/pets come first if there's a scheduling conflict, closely followed by partner. Everything else can usually wait a bit if necessary.

My own very rough schedule as a solo household is : I budget 15 mins for washing up & kitchen clean per day. This is not optional for me as I'm immunocompromised post cancer treatment and well, microbiology. Laundry once a week (mostly) depending on weather. Rest of house - I budget 2 hours on a weekend for tidy up and cleaning. That's housework sorted mostly. Maybe do a more thorough clean at the change of season. Life is too short to wipe the top of cupboards or clean behind the fridge more than 4 times a year imo. For me, Saturdays are a write off anyway as I have to take an osteoporosis pill weekly that screws me over for most of the day (gotta stay within 30 seconds of the loo), so I might as well stay home and sort the house on that day. Maybe do some slow cooking if I can be bothered. Ditto gardening. Most of my friends are trained now and know that I'm not available on Saturdays for socialising.
Sundays are my fun days - I try to keep that day free to do pretty much whatever I want or see people etc.
Shopping : once a week for pantry/fridge. And stop on the way home after work for fresh stuff if needed.
Life admin : 1 hour once a month copes with most things. Or deal as they come up.
Cooking : breakfast isn't really cooking unless you do eggs etc., so cooking is roughly 1 hour at the endish of the day. During the week I keep it very simple. A bit more lavish on the weekend - say 2 hours for 3 mealsworth. After dinner is relax/chill/net time or reading or hobbies.

Take home message - it all depends on circumstances. And nobody gets it all done all the time. And if they did, I would consider them to be robot aliens from a distant planet with good connections to the cosmetic and AI industries.

Eagle@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y

I manage some of that. Not all, and not all the time.

SituationCake@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (1 reply)

I canโ€™t manage it all. I do some of the things some of the time, based on which dumpster is burning the most. Guess Iโ€™m not very functional.

Bottom_racer@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y

Everyone's winging it lol.

Force_majeure123@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y

I manage sleeping and working, most of the time

tone212_@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

I struggle to do it all. Especially living alone with cooking and housework - if I don't do it, it doesn't get done. Feels like I'm on the go every day and often just treading water. Prioritising is the only tactic I have to manage.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

Youโ€™re not meant to have to do it all alone. Usually there would have been a stay at home spouse, a multigenerational household and/or a support system

Edit: Iโ€™m chipping away at things in chunks but Iโ€™m not on top of everything either. Obviously the needs of my pet take priority, then mine, and everything is prioritised after that.

I chunk her twice daily meds in with her breakfast and supper, that really helps.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

When Miss Seagoon was at home she was the priority. Always. I mean, we would do other things but always considered her first.

SaneMartigan@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

I think the 80/20 rule can lighten this mood. The theory that you get 80% of the result from 20% of the effort. Kids are a unique responsibility... To some parents. But the rest of the stuff, you don't have to be perfect, but put some effort in. A bit of exercise, a reasonable diet, a job you don't hate that pays enough. What gets marketed is people living perfect lives, the reality is few people have the energy or discipline to squeeze every moment.

SpinMeAround@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

It's a rotation of what's important, things definitely get missed and there's things on that list I definitely do not do.

Tomorrow I start my drive up north and while I'll be in a campervan with a little gas stove and staying at caravan parks for the most part, it's been so long that I kind of struggled to think about what easy dinners I could make. Couscous and some sauce it'll be, and some soup packets. It feels a lot harder doing it for one person as it really doesn't feel worth doing prep and cleaning, most times I've been with others and at least there's some fun to be had roasting potatoes and what have you. This is just going to be bare basics... Probably nice for a change, really.

Wish I'd brought my aeropress though. Just to be that Melburnian out west

imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (2 replies)

Did our annual visit to the aquarium today. It's always a good experience and the kids like it, but the website is terrible and gives me a bad vibe.

I don't like how it's part of a private company that's an entertainment group. I'd fell better if it was state run like the zoo. Because how much would maintenance on that place cost?
