pack it in a bag, discord nag

pepper ann pepper ann way too cool for 7th grade

Yeah so you know how on a bunch of linux distros, Discord will nag you to update and then not let you in? And sometimes your repo isn't up-to-date enough to have the new version for you? AH GEEZ! SO ANNOYING!

This includes how to fix it if you are on arch (CachyOS, Manjaro, etc).

i can also recommend vesktop. i forgot if it's an official or aur package, though

Corelli_III@midwest.social · 11 pts · 360d

i like vesktop on popOS/ ubuntu-likes

just can't beat their aesthetic

dditty@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 5 pts · 360d

That's what I've also been using and I do prefer it. It's from the AUR

Kyouki@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 356d

equicord/equictl is yet another mod ontop of vencord mods for even more.

joyjoy@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 359d

i have Vesktop installed as a flatpak

TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 360d

Here's all the parts of a meme. Put them together yourself.

The Discord flatpak never nags you about the update! Join us in Flatpak land! It Just Works ™ .

seralth@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 359d

Expect when it doesn't! Flatpaks woo!

KernelTale@programming.dev · 5 pts · 359d

I try to avoid flatpaks as much as possible. Vesktop on on flatpak takes like 15%CPU while .deb takes like 3% (both on idle)

BuboScandiacus@mander.xyz · 8 pts · 360d (1 reply)

Just use it from the browser

gray@pawb.social · 7 pts · 360d

If you don’t need a hotkey for your mic this is the best solution by far.

panda_abyss@lemmy.ca · 6 pts · 360d (3 replies)

This is why I run discord in the browser only.

cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone · 8 pts · 360d (2 replies)

plus you can use discord container

Manifish_Destiny@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 360d (1 reply)

Interesting. it'd be even better if everything didn't use discord as a wiki that can't be indexed.

No matter the fixes I see, I just can't help but wonder why the base software can't just be better?

cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone · 2 pts · 360d

my favourite part is how first they say oh a new update download the deb but then it doesn't auto download in app it takes you to the webpage (and you can't close out of the update window)... then you double click the deb and it updates in apt but then you open it and it updates AGAIN.

Technus@lemmy.zip · 6 pts · 360d

Tbh I just use it as a reminder to run a system upgrade, otherwise I'd constantly forget to do it.

hperrin@lemmy.ca · 5 pts · 360d

Omg it’s Pepper Ann! I haven’t thought about that show in probably 15 years.

Linearity@infosec.pub · 4 pts · 360d (3 replies)

Goodcord flatpak eliminates telemetry and also includes vencord

BuboScandiacus@mander.xyz · 1 pts · 360d (2 replies)

Isn't there a possibility that you'll get banned for that ?

Grass@sh.itjust.works · 7 pts · 360d

ive been using vesktop/vencord for the past whenever it became a thing and so far nothing

Linearity@infosec.pub · 4 pts · 359d

Just keep it a secret from whomever might report you 😆

cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone · 4 pts · 360d

another deb? toss it in the discord debs folder.

Endymion_Mallorn@kbin.melroy.org · 3 pts · 360d

P. A. needs a sequel series.

UnfortunateShort@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 360d

Some great 3rd party clients on Flathub as well (Webcord, Vesktop...)

30p87@feddit.org · -1 pts · 360d (2 replies)

Ez fix: sudo pacman -Rns discord && echo "127.0.0.1 discord.com *.discord.com" | sudo tee -a /etc/hosts

FuyuhikoDate@feddit.org · 5 pts · 360d (1 reply)

Hmm... But can you use discord when you block the connection to it by itself?

30p87@feddit.org · 2 pts · 360d

No. That's the point.

MehBlah@lemmy.world · -5 pts · 359d

2/10. Solution doesn't involve replacing arch.
