The chairman of the New York State Democratic Party said on Thursday that he would not support Zohran Mamdani, his party’s nominee for mayor of New York City, citing fundamental disagreements over Israel and democratic socialism.
The position puts the chairman, Jay Jacobs, directly at odds with both Democratic primary voters and Gov. Kathy Hochul, his de facto boss, who endorsed Mr. Mamdani on Sunday despite her own differences with the nominee.
Mr. Jacobs, a moderate from Long Island, was so opposed to the governor’s endorsement that he told associates in recent days that he would sooner resign as chairman than back Mr. Mamdani, a 33-year-old state lawmaker and democratic socialist, according to people who spoke with the chairman.

He does seem to be kind of bad at politics. Hochul just showed him how to thread the needle, he could have followed her lead.

Hochul just showed him how to acquiesce to public sentiment in the same way a windsock acquiesces to the wind. It is entirely impossible to pretend there was any level of shrewdness or political aptitude in Hochul’s tepid and tardy endorsement.
The only difference here is that Hochul could lose her job due to voters thinking she’s an idiot, while Jacobs is not actually accountable in any meaningful way to the voting public.

Mamdani is where he is because a ton of people actually got off their asses and voted. Perhaps we should do more of that so we can get rid of the useless people like this party chairman.

Mamdani is where he is because he was out there getting support for his progressive platform and making voting feel like it matters. I strongly doubt somewhere like Los Angeles or Seattle would react differently to a candidate like Mamdani showing up, but they just don't.

So on one hand we have democrats trying to subpoena the FCC chair and getting shot down, and on the other we have democrats actively fighting against what's best for New York. They can't decide whether to shit or go blind, so they close one eye and fart, getting precisely nowhere in the process. I hate that we don't have a truly left-leaning party in this country, just fascists and people on the right that call themselves liberals.

Sorry, but income disparity might now be the second greatest problem in America only being overshot by the willful unchecked support of fascism taking root in everything. Even if we dissolved the income disparity, there’s a real fucking problem with hate and that hate and power will ultimately make income disparity happen again (if solved), or become even worse!

We really need to break away from using the dem brand as a signal of who to support. Help each other do the work to know candidate's beleifs and vision, their history, their goals and their capabilities. There is no reason to not know in detail the candidates that embody what we believe in and which do not. We can easily wikipage an entire fucking dossier on each one if we wanted to.
