“Kneecap represents not only a threat to the Jewish community, but their incitement, their glorification of terror, represent a threat to all Canadian values and to all Canadians,” Robertson said

Not my values you fascist shit bag.

1:1 eh? I guess. 😄

RelativityRanger@lemmy.ca · 5 pts · 353d

did you see that bozo barred from entering Canada? or even from performing? naah..

ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one · 1 pts · 351d

You mean the MAGA singer who had a sold out show in Toronto.

Fenrisulfir@lemmy.ca · 30 pts · 353d

Didn’t we just let a super felon rapist in like a month ago?

avidamoeba@lemmy.ca · 27 pts · 353d

This Gasparro dude used to be a board member of Postmedia.

In July, a group of First Nations leaders called on the federal government to close the borders to the rappers, insisting that allowing them to perform violates the “spirit and obligations” of treaties between FN and the government.

This is also interesting.

But in general, we don't have very strong free speech protections so I wouldn't be surprised if they remain barred.

A festival was held in Toronto about a month ago in support of Israel, wow crazy that Canada approved such a dangerous endorsement of violence and hate.
No problem with publicly supporting perpetrators of a genocide, right?

barbatruc@sh.itjust.works · 20 pts · 353d (2 replies)

Who are we to judge people how they resist their occupier. Canada certainly is not in a historical posture to pitch in on how to resist genocide.

Hezbollah actively supported the Syrian military occupation of Lebanon. A brutal occupation that lasted longer than the Israeli occupation. Hezbollah killed many Lebanese political figures including the most famous one, Rafik Hariri.

To defend Bachar El Assad, they slaughtered sunnis across Syria.

The judge investigating the Beirut Port Explosion ? He receive death threats from Hezbollah.

Let's not white wash their bloody crimes.

For sure, but let's also be realistic here, three Irish rappers holding up a flag isn't exactly carrying any water.

The fact that they were brought up on hate speech charges for holding up a flag that was tossed on stage at one of their shows is more of an indictment of the heavy-handedness of UK law than of them.

I'm sure their frequent criticism of the British treatment of colonial peoples has nothing to do with their legal problems, like pointing out that the Black and Tans that terrorized the Irish in the 1920s were relocated to Palestine after they were done in Ireland.

Fucking bullshit. Turn up your music so everyone can hear.

Shameful

BCBoy911@lemmy.ca · 12 pts · 352d

I'm done with Carney man, this shit is so ass.

Sunshine@piefed.ca · 11 pts · 353d

These guys and Gary Yourofsky have been banned from Canada. WTF!?

cygnus@lemmy.ca · -22 pts · 353d (31 replies)

That's fair, since they're on the record as endorsing groups that are recognized by the Canadian government as terrorist entities:

A 2024 performance reportedly caught a group member cheering “Up Hamas, Up Hezbollah.”

snoons@lemmy.ca · 27 pts · 353d (2 replies)

To be even more fair; you're directly quoting misinformation released by the Canadian government in support of Israel and their mass murder of Palestinian people (aka, genocide). This misinformation is a result of "Jewish" groups, which recently have shown themselves as basically being lapdogs for the Israeli state.

Kneecap aren't anti-semetic, they are anti-Israel and as much as Israeli fascists want it to be; being against the Israeli state is not the the same as being against Jews.

uhmbah@lemmy.ca · 3 pts · 352d

This!!

cygnus@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 352d

Is this video misinformation? https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x9ie5qs

Sunshine@piefed.ca · 19 pts · 353d (13 replies)

Yes because people in power have always made decent decisions. The law is moral and might makes right…

cygnus@lemmy.ca · -14 pts · 353d (12 replies)

I'm not sure what you mean by that comment - are you saying Hamas and Hezbollah are OK? I wouldn't welcome a band that praises the IDF, and this is no different.

Sunshine@piefed.ca · 8 pts · 353d (11 replies)

Hamas and Hezbollah are OK?

Where did I say this?

snoons@lemmy.ca · 9 pts · 353d (6 replies)

Hasbara-brained dummies will remember you saying whatever they want, without evidence.

Sunshine@piefed.ca · 6 pts · 353d (5 replies)

They got marked as zionist.

avidamoeba@lemmy.ca · 3 pts · 353d (4 replies)

How, they equated Hezbollah to the IDF. Regardless of any arguments about equivalence or lack thereof, I don't think a zionist would ever do that.

Sunshine@piefed.ca · 2 pts · 353d

They could be misinformed.

cygnus@lemmy.ca · -2 pts · 352d

Some people here think everything is a Marvel movie with one perfectly good side and one perfectly bad one. Any deviation from that and they slap you with the "bad guy" label. Only a complete moron would read my post and interpret it as meaning I'm a zionist.

jimmy90@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 352d

what do you think of them?

what do you think of october 7th?

khar21@lemmy.ca · -5 pts · 352d (2 replies)

Ofcourse you go silent as soon as someone directly asks if you support October 7th... Coward.

Sunshine@piefed.ca · 4 pts · 352d (1 reply)

Yet you ignore how 65k Palestinians were murdered by the IDF. How pathetic to throw insults.

khar21@lemmy.ca · -1 pts · 352d

Talk about deflection and straw manning. You still haven't answered the question.

I don't think you can take a single live artististic performance as "being on the record for endorsing" anything.

Eminem wasn't endorsing everything in his lyrics.

masterspace@lemmy.ca · 0 pts · 352d (10 replies)

Yes, like I said.

Me, an intellectual, looking at a guy wearing a Hezbollah flag and saying up Hamas, up Hezbollah: "actually that doesn't prove he likes Hezbollah"

RelativityRanger@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 352d (8 replies)

https://www.timesofisrael.com/after-up-hamas-up-hezbollah-video-irish-band-kneecap-denies-supporting-terror-groups

The band said on Monday “let us be unequivocal: we do not, and have never, supported Hamas or Hezbollah.”
“We condemn all attacks on civilians, always,” the band said.

cygnus@lemmy.ca · 0 pts · 352d (7 replies)

I find it hard to reconcile that with the video, but if they are willing to publicly apologize for it then they should be allowed into Canada.

masterspace@lemmy.ca · 0 pts · 352d

It's really easy to reconcile that with the video. It's called watching the atrocities that Israel commits, and getting angry enough that you say something you don't entirely mean or haven't entirely thought through.
