Maybe not? If you do a break down of gun violence stats and adjust for the population difference to account for the smaller number of trans people there are statistically significant fewer gunners. Enough to potentially posit that being trans actively correlates with being less violent as a whole.
It's like, if we're made completely illegal from just existing, outside of rotting in prison without our meds, or worse, then a lot of us would have literally no choice but to defend ourselves. Because it's literally either that, or just going straight to El Salvador/Alligator-Auschwitz.
Which is of course, what they want. Either they hurt us when we stay passive, or else we try to fight and they get to say, "Look, see, see, they are violent!" and then they hurt us anyway. It never should've come anywhere close to this point. Fuck fascists, and the conservatives that aid them, forever.
There is no real "defending ourselves" in that regard. Not in the face of this. No cavalry is coming. Violence will solve nothing for us by way of defense. If we become violent it will be because we have very much given up.
