Think maga, but somehow "socialist" and really, really likes China (and usually Russia) and will wave away any negative points about them. Overall, pretty annoying.
Edit: For more examples, just read the OP's comments. Not even joking, they're pretty decent examples of how tankies talk, if you see them outside of their native habitat (ie .ml).

An authoritarian "communist."
The term originated in England, after the USSR sent in tanks to crush the Hungarian Revolution in 1956. Those who supported the USSR - who believed that people should be forced to submit to a "communist" system under threat of death at the hands of an authoritarian government - were, and still are, called "tankies."

Pro-China/Russia/NK trolls who are only capable of black and white thinking, and bad faith arguments. "Oh look, here is one single, specific subject in which the USA has done a bad job, while China has done a good job. See western liberals, China is a superior nation."
They completely ignore that any country is capable of doing good things, and bad things, despite how evil said country may or may not be.
They have a copy paste playbook they share with each other, with replies such as "you're wrong because western propaganda."
Better to not waste time, block them, and never look back.

Not just a communist. A tankie is a person who says they like leftist policy and ideals but then go on to honor authoritarians who used leftist language to secure their power. See: leninism, maoism, all the fools constantly praising China while crapping on the US, all the fools sucking off the USSR even though it was never socialist...
They're generally immature and under-educated buffoons who think they like leftist policy but still have such a pathetically tiny understanding of authority, governance, and policy that they'll praise authoritarians in one breath and claim to actually be an anarchist in the next.

These are folks who consider China, N. Korea, and Russia to be ideal havens of the workers, regardless of any contrasting data.

I don't use the term tankies but any time I get how its all capitalism and once the workers own the means of production. That type is not helping anyone actually working on meaningful change in reality.

Well you know if tankies had voted or not voted for Jill Stein, they'd be taken more serious. But they keep wanting to die on the Gaza hill with moral superiority, not focusing on all of the other horrific shit their righteousness has allowed.
Also, Trump's attacks on the left are because he needs a scapegoat.
